      Living in Scotland I hadn’t realised just how pervasive this shit was until I drove through Middlesbrough last week. Fucking flags on every streetlamp, tangled up in tree branches, telephone lines. It was embarrassing. 

      The two yoots on the single electric motorbike wearing balaclavas as they sped down the pavement was the icing on top of the brief, unpleasant experience.

      They’re a bunch of morons using right-wing dog whistle politics, but I really do have to wonder how on the flip-side this could be seen as “causing alarm and distress”. It’s a flag, not a machine gun turret.

      My wife (an immigrant, and no idea about or interest in British politics) was with me when we drove through an area where they’re fond of putting these flags up, and commented “those flags are really pretty, why don’t they do it around our way?” She’s also from a country where they love displaying their national flag.

      I think we should do more of it. They’re cheap, easy to put up, take the symbolism back from the right-wing morons.
