Come on now, these are just teens who claim to be under a certain age, but the Home Office believes they are probably lying and older.
They’ve already made an incredibly dangerous journey on their own, risking their lives. At worst, a genuine 15- or 16-year-old might then spend some time in a relatively safe detention centre before being returned to France, a safe country.
The alternative would be to treat anyone who claims to be a child as a child. Which would mean adult males living with actual children, going to actual schools…and would also incentive young people to make the dangerous crossing…
