I mean, it’s the law in China, if a Chinese person gets that sentence, I don’t see why someone else should be exempt, just because they have another nationality.

Regardless of opinions about the law itself, it should apply equally, which seems to have been the case here. I don’t think someone should have “special rights” just for being from somewhere else, when they committed a crime in that country.

The Opium Wars are still fresh in the mind of the chinese. It’s a reason why they call that period “The Century of Humiliation”.

All I can say that, unless framed, someone trafficking drugs in China has to be stupid, desperate or both

Historicaly China had a big opium issue provocked by the British where they flooded the country with opium from India, because of some Tea trade war. This caused serious issues in China with even impact on the country development. Maybe that’s where this strickt rules come from.

      Check for The Opium Wars.

Laotian-born meth trafficker operating in Guangzhou who happened to have a French passport… “Frenchman” is doing some heavy lifting here.

    8. “His defense team did not get access to the final court hearing, in violation of his rights, the ministry added.”

Even if you support this and are sure they got the right guy, if they were so sure why couldn’t they just grant the access?

Yay redditors being weird about the death penalty again…

The death penalty is wrong no matter who does it, whether it’s China, the US, Russia or Israel. Should you be aware of different laws in different countries? Sure, but that doesn’t change the fact that capital punishment is wrong and that we should always advocate for its abolition worldwide.

Why torture a person by keeping them on the death row for 16 years?
