They’ll definitely reopen the Strait of Hormuz when they see the protest

Waste more fuel protesting and holding up traffic to force the government to reduce their tax take and watch the oil suppliers eat up the reduction? Genius.

As much of an inconvenience this may be to everyone else, something has to be done and I for one stand with the protesters. Fuel prices are out of control and I completely sympathise with some who drives for a living

At least some people will try and fairplay to them for it.

Be mean to Americans about the state of their country. I’m American and almost every single conversation i had with someone outside of service was about politics brought up by the Irish resident. This is the way. Folks who don’t support him will gladly tell you they hate him. Folks who do will have their entire vacation ruined and ego bruised. Be mean to Americans. We deserve it. We earned it.

If everyone that could use alternative transport to driving like cycling or use public transport or liftshare did, would that keep petrol prices down for those that have no choice?

Well done to everyone actually doing something instead of just complaining 👏👏👏

It’s funny that in the near future there will be so many EVs and renewables in Ireland, that it won’t matter what happens to oil prices.

I know protests are meant to disrupt, but disrupting the very people you are claiming to be protesting on behalf of.. is a bit wild.

Dublin commuters have some of the worst commutes in Europe already without this being thrown on top

Why don’t employers except emergency services give the day off. They should though.

So I missed the part where they said clearly what they wanted. Do they think disrupting everyone is going to stop the war or are they looking for more government subsities for their business or are they just having a bit of a eld moan

This is a waste of time and will only annoy people. The price cuts on excise duty last month cost €250 million. This is not something that we can buy our way out off. I’m just happy that we actually have fuel for now at least

At least for the Dublin protests actually do it when the Dail is back from Easter holidays FFS.

Oh yes, I’m sure that’ll be a huge help

They need to mandate WFH for those that can to keep un-necessary cars off the road.

  16. Plenty of people in the comments who advocate “what will it achieve” or “waste of time”,FFG love people like you ….

I’m expecting this to spill over in some nasty way either a high speed collision or violence.

Calling for tax breaks for the biggest users of fuel doesn’t seem like a particularly bright idea

    > Does anybody in Government understand there are no electric tractors

Sorry but don’t farmers use green diesel??

Useless pricks. Have to cancel a doctors appointment because of these gombeens.

  21. Craicriture on

Oh fuck … I have to get to a hospital appointment at 8am. I’ll have to leave way way earlier now. Brilliant..

There were some protests in the UK a few years back organised by a group called Just Stop Oil. They ending up annoying a lot of people and as you can tell had zero positive impact. In fact the backlash against was getting so big it was having a negative impact for the group. They were using similar protest tactics to this. Disrupting traffic and public transport was something they did a lot.

I like that it’s most used routes and a couple of towns. Can’t wait to see Bray locked down by tractors. It’ll be a day out for sure!

Government must tell employeers to tell their employees to work from home for the foreseeable future

It’s stupid having people commute into an office to sit on teams calls all day

Just looked up Athlone Stands Together, only had to scroll the tiniest amount to find the “get them out” posts

  26. newphonewhodis1899 on

That should end the war in the middle east for sure fucking idiots

  27. I don’t drive but doesn’t driving slowly end up costing you more fuel than normally if you were to just vroom on the M50? So you spend fuel to go to M50 to protest and jam the traffic so other people have to spend more fuel to protest the prices of fuel although the Dail is not even back to work until next week … ? Whoever organised this is a scammer lmao
