The chat on Roblox is switched off for my youngest and limited for my eldest. We’ve talked about online dangers, but trying not to ruin their innocence in the process.

Their screen time is limited, but in many ways I just want to ban them completely. But I also don’t want them to be the odd one out at school, like the kid who didn’t have a TV in my day.

They are both banned at the moment for misbehaviour, so I have a week of relaxing. The other funny thing is I’m sure they are happier without screens. They appear to get more enjoyment out of other activities.

This is the reason I wont allow my son to play it. All his friends do at school but until they can control the platform its banned in our house, Roblox keep saying they have all these rules in place but I keep hearing of this type of thing on there.

  3. I said this in a parenting sub and i’ll say it here too. I’ll never let my child play Roblox unsupervised if it’s still around when he’s older.

Me and my older cousin used to play. We joined my little cousin in a sub-game to see what it was. It was a sex game where you could pick what private parts you would like your character to visibly have. They were called “Scented Cons” and were trending at the time around 2019-21. My cousin was 8. We couldn’t find him inside the game because there were too many people and there were private rooms that wouldn’t show on the public chat.

I told his mother and she barely disciplined him. I’m sure he went straight back on it. Games like that are more likely underground on the game if they still exist. However, it’s lounges, mic-up games, and socialising games that are rife in people like the man above. Dangerous.

Edit: For anyone that may doubt this experience feel free to search “Scented Cons Roblox.” on Google.

Unfortunately this is what happens when you don’t monitor your children’s internet use.

Poor little girl, I hope she’s receiving therapy and help through this.

I grew up with free reign of the internet, I know firsthand the dangers and predators lurking on children’s games. I was on Habbo from 10-17.

My kids will not be online. My eldest is perfectly happy playing slime rancher and little kitty big city. Makes me feel sick thinking of him exposed to the things I was 🤮

I’ve never played Roblox. But I’m a long time gamer from the 80s.

Back in the day online multiplayer games like these would have trusted players as helpers. I don’t know why this idea is never seen anymore.

Just no. My kids never had telly until they were 10, the computer was in the living room.
    They are in their 30s.
One thing they don’t complain about is ” being different” at school, or missing out by not having seen some TV programmes.

Roblox has a sinister reputation because it’s developers are incredibly loathe to deal with the problem of child predators on their platform. If your kid uses it be sure to educate them on online safety, and if you can curate the social tools in game.
