So stupid it’s not being done where it actually matters, nah let’s just fuck over the health service

A friend brought his partner to an maternity appointment yesterday in maternity hospital in Limerick.

    About a 20km drive.

Took them over 2 hours to get there.

Farmers really think their needs are more important than anyone else. They can just fuck off

Shaming them with this type of messaging might be the quickest route to a climb down tbh.

Lives and wellbeing are now being put at risk as nurses, esp outreach start to run out of fuel in the next few days.

And this is how you lose public support. I’m all for protests being inconvenient but when you delay emergency services then you need to redirect. Why can’t they blockade Leinster House?

Protesters are a disgrace. They have no mandate.

My auntie was waiting 5 hours for an ambulance 2 weeks ago, before the blockades….. The problem with health services was here long before the protests and I imagine it’ll be here long after

Why does the government always bend to bully tatics from far right? Imagine if the ”far left” were blocking fuel delviery and the roads to the extent they are from the farmers, the batons would have been brought out immediately

IMO have it right here, no matter how noble the cause (any cause) the issue here is the targeting of critical infrastructure. Yes protest has to be disruptive but not a threat to public order. To be honest there are questions to be asked about the response to this, we should not have our critical infrastructure so vulnerable to disruption for days on end.

The government could end this by entering talks with Hauliers but they are flat out refusing. They provide an essential service of transporting goods around the country. To just ignore their plight, crated by the government, is insane.
I guarantee the people who are against the hauliers now will be marching themselves when supermarkets cant stock themselves

I’ve been inconvenienced this week as much as everyone but what else can we do? I got €500of home heating oil last week but it was over 200l less than I got for the same price in December. We’re being screwed and just rolling over and taking it and now blaming the people trying to do something. Im ashamed to say I voted FF/FG in the most recent general election but it was for the last time.

  12. Pot calling the kettle black on delayed appointments. My aunty had various cancers, my uncle had prostate cancer and my mother’s had a lot of problems with osteoporosis and other age related heath problems over the last few years. Appointments for things where you’d say time is a very important factor can be weeks and months.

Didn’t ambulance drivers vote to go on strike? Will that have the same impact if they strike?

I don’t know how anyone can support what these protests are doing, honestly. Quite apart from the far right dicks popping up among them, inconvenience for attention and leverage is one thing, actively hurting and putting at risk people is another. It’s appalling.

Shouldn’t they ask the government to remove the fuel tax. The tax on fuel is more than the cost of the whole supply line, surely that’s fucked up?

  16. kinesiolynx on

Genuine question: why are there people saying this is a far right protest? What am I missing?

  17. Fries-Ericsson on

I don’t really know what side to pick in relation to these protests but the reality is a peaceful protest is only going to succeed if it manages to cause a disruption.

A peaceful protest is a protest that achieves its means without using violence. Broadening the definition like this is just more engaging in more avoidance of the issue

The cunts won’t listen to this at all, they love the attention

It’s a shame it has come to this and our arrogant government refused to enter any sort of negotiations. They had time before any of this started and flat out refused. If you listen to them in the Dáil for the past couple of weeks they refused to listen or care how this was going to affect the general public. People are on their knees not being able to afford basic necessities and with these increases, things will only get worse.
It’s unfortunate people who need medical care are stuck in delays or missing appointments. I think that is truly awful but the government are the ones to blame imo, not the people fighting for the Irish people.

Just adding on – I’m shocked to see how many people in these threads are against this protest. I don’t think people are seeing beyond the blockade to how this is going to affect everyone in Ireland in the coming months. Food prices will go through the roof. Every rise in cost that’s added to the farmers has an effect on the price you pay for food. The hauliers bringing your food from the factories to the stores, their costs are rising, which will be added to the cost of food. All while our government is taking more than half of the cost in tax.

Government taking the piss placating this lot for 4 days now. It’s a blatant violation of section 9 of the public order act.

It should be broken up today less any other looney toon group decides this is an acceptable form of protest.

  21. wolf101123 on

Deploy the Army, this cannot be allowed to continue. Lives are at stake here, there is protesting and there is holding a country to ransom.

Information went out in the hospital I work in today about which plug sockets work with generators, estimate of fuel requirements for our generator, how long our anaesthetic machines last on battery only (4 hours if anyone is interested) and how many elective lists will be cancelled should the fuel blockade continue. All very matter of fact, not scaremonging or a press release, just advice on what we’re going to have to do. No mention of how staff will get fuel for personal cars yet.

If they didn’t own 50 tonne vehicles they wouldn’t be able to do any of this, it wouldn’t even occur to them to try it. They are bully boys. I look forward to seeing them lend their horsepower on behalf of health, housing, childcare etc I won’t hold my breath.
