La lotta con le uova (o Egg Tapping) è un’antica tradizione sopravvissuta all’arrivo del cristianesimo e si è fatta strada nelle celebrazioni pasquali. Viene giocato in molti paesi, ma in Ucraina, soprattutto tra i bambini, è una cosa seria.

I went to a Ukrainian restaurant in Sydney for Ukrainian Easter.
Staff had recognised I am not Ukrainian and told me about this tradition and gave me two eggs for me to decorate with edible ink and take home (and gave me a third decorated egg as well).
This is done all over Eastern Orthodox counties all the way down to Greece.
Not clear what the origin is, because there are contesting theories, but most agree it’s something that can be traced back to pre-Christian folk (Pagan?) customs, just like the “Christmas” tree.
