Charging tourists while still refusing to return looted artefacts feels incredibly tone-deaf. At minimum, they could earmark a clear percentage of ticket revenue for restitution, conservation and partnerships with source countries.

The UK can do whatever it wants with those artifacts. The Elgin marbles were bought by Lord Elgin and that’s basically the only reason they still exist.

The history is full of looting and worse, the West has got better and now gets criticised for the past, because we have free speech so it’s allowed, but the looting and worse is still going on in the other parts of the world, such as the destruction of the Bamyan Buddhas in Afghanistan.

This thread is going to attract the worst people with the worst takes on a really complicated issue.

    4. Are there European tourists visiting England with all the problems they given them (VISA and long queues)?

Do any other well known museums, with their tens of thousands of stolen artefacts, charge an entry fee?

Well, I was never going to visit the British museum out of moral principle. Charging for entry should only discourage more people from going, so maybe it’s a good thing.
