This could have been an appropriate time for leaving Russian oil behind. Such a shame.

Honestly feels like a missed chance to finally cut the cord from Russian oil. Maybe the EU should at least tie any Druzhba restart to clear, timed diversification targets for Hungary.

Wow, druzhba card is here again, and once again blaming Ukraine. Impressive

eh… when are their next elections?

If I were Ukraine I would do it. Restoring relationships and Hungary letting the €90b through in the EU is much more consequential than whatever Russia earns from selling gas to Hungary.
Obviously Magyar should work to diversify as soon as possible but starting out with an energy crisis is not what this new government needs if we want this to be the start of something better.

So, what changed after Orban left?

Well, that was the plan and it would be nice if that was all he said and didn’t spice it up with threats and insults.

This is shameful.
Magyar is forcing the victim of aggression to help the aggressor sell their oil, knowing full well that the oil income will be used to fund the war.
He is asking Ukraine to suffer more Russian drones and bombs so that Hungary can get cheaper oil.
Ukraine should just say no to this immoral and selfish request, and call Magyar’s bluff about the veto. Let him actually veto it and show his true colors, and put himself in opposition to the rest if Europe. He knows how that turned out for Orban.

Shame. I thought he was more progressive than his predecessor. He really should take the opportunity to find an alternative energy supply.
