“My advice, though, is call 999, tell the police the crime is happening now, tell them you know who it is, that they were repeat offenders.”

So the police can do nothing

Is he going to pay Waitrose’ legal costs when the ‘have a go heroes’ take them to court after a crackhead caves their head in?

Will the police step in when one of these have a go hero staff members gets there skull caved in or ends up with a disease from a needle.

So will the met not charge anyone who assaults a shoplifter then, does that mean we can be vigilantes? What if someone decides to do a citizens arrest on someone and it turns out their innocent, will the police turn a blind eye there as well?

Maybe we should, you know have a functioning Police and, better still, a society that isn’t falling apart while massive corporations rake in billions.

Breaking company policy is always something a company will deem worthy of disciplinary action, multiple disciplinary actions will always be grounds for dismissal.

This is also the case with the police.

For goodness’ sake! Some years ago they were all in the media firmly discouraging ‘have a go heroes’ and saying everyone should let the police handle it and not put themselves in danger.

Now it’s turned on its head AGAIN and we are to do the police’s job for them! Then what are they for?! Are we all to arm ourselves with billyclubs? Bring back thieftakers? Wild West-style posters on the town hall notice board with WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE printed on them?

Bloody stupid. The general public should do no more than document, record and provide evidence to the police. It is not our job to keep ourselves safe, that is why we have police in the first place. If they can’t or won’t do their duty then hang it all.

are we really okay for advocating vigilante justice??

AM I crazy? This dude was a repeat offender who just wanted any opportunity to fight someone.

If they tackle a man once for groping a kid, they’re a hero, if they jump anyone they see breaking any law they’re just addicted to exerting power.

Idk as female I do not want men working security to have the power to ASSAULT PEOPLE.

Crazy thought. Get police to investigate repeat offenders and prosecute accordingly instead of ignoring the police reports that retailers give even with hard evidence so all the difficult work has been done for them

Tbf it’s a joke they can’t step in. Like no one is out there getting themselves hurt at work on purpose. But lines do need drawing. Like you know your size if you think you can you should if you don’t think you can then why the security guard got a job? Like if you was on your way home from the pub late one night and you heard from a dark alley please no stop it. Do you just walk on and say it’s no my policy to intervene? The store policy makes you complicate in the crime for looking the other way.

Edit to add always inform first. It’s upto them in charge how they are playing it. Don’t put yourself in danger but if you feel comfortable doing so why no you clearly don’t feel dangered. And neither say it needs to be violence just calling them out is enough to know their caught.
