How is this even a question? It’s surprising we’re not revoking the passports of the fake opposition living inside EU

It’s very simple really, just ask them about Crimea at the border control and they will reveal themselves in a second.

The fact that Hungary finally had elections and the EU instantly materialized a €90B package within 24 hours is hilarious. They literally had their finger hovering over the ‘Send’ button just waiting for the veto blocker to get out of the way

So basically they want to make it even more impossible for Russian deserters to seek asylum within the EU?
Sudden-Conclusion931 on
Why allow any Russians at all? Even if theyre not directly involved in the war in Ukraine, or hybrid war, espionage and sabotage within the EU, the vast majority support Putin and the war. The only thing that will hurt them is isolating them completely.

>that by signing a contract
If we put aside the fact that it disincentivizes desertion, what about the people who were forced to participate either by being forced to sign contract or by directly being mobilized? I understand that it’s a minority but it’s a minority that has nowhere to go and no one to turn to. And if we look at the situation on the ground, there’s a non-zero chance that the amount of people who were forced into the army might significantly increase very soon
>He added that the move is “fair,” arguing that those who “fight a war to harm Europe and European states” should not be allowed to travel there, and urged all EU member states to support the initiative.
I feel like what would be unquestionably fair is something like revoking visas, residence permits and citizenships of children of Russian oligarchs, government officials and propagandists. You know, to hurt the actual decision-makers and the actual war criminals and their shitlings directly benefitting from the war. Somehow that’s still not on the table 5 years in

So, I am pretty sure Russia has a universal draft for men over 18. If so, this basically means Russian men are stuck in Russia but the women can leave. And… there’s a lot of reason for them to leave. It’s an interesting move by the EU.

Love the ban though I was always curious about the idea of something like a 10,000 euro fee for them instead which goes directly to Ukraine. (i.e. effectively a ban but raise some money and also any veterans that truly feel remorseful can see it as paying some penance). Did that idea ever get brought up?

I’m fine with this. Visiting the EU is a privilege, not a right. Wealthy Russians should have to deal with the consequences of the government that enriches them.

While I agree that this sounds like a good idea, aren’t the people fighting in Ukraine often forcefully drafted so they didn’t have a choice (most Vietnam vets come to mind) ? How does this affect defectors ?

Aside from the immorality of still allowing veterans of a war of aggression and probable war criminals into EU countries, it’s a continued risk to the safety of EU residents.
Let the US have the war veterans visits, they have been promoting Russia since taking office, and have ceased all sanctions against them. It’s a great match, ignorant MAGA and Russian Empire wanna bees.
