If AI turns out to be a bubble we are sorta screwed

The government will probably green light another data centre to power the tools taking these jobs.

“We urgently need real Government intervention around AI-related job losses, not just proposals and assessments. Tech companies cannot be allowed to discard hundreds of workers overnight to fund AI without strict government oversight”
Hear hear.

Never heard of this company before but a quick search shows very bad ratings for it. Meta will say the a.i. won’t make human mistakes…

Jobs that don’t need to exist, supporting a company damaging the society, pulling in workers from abroad who inflate domestic housing and other problems.

I have sympathy for them but what exactly is the government intervention here? You work for a company and then you will deal with the fallout if that company fails or moves or replaces your job with technology. I don’t get why the government should do anything for them that they don’t do for everyone else.

Sooner this AI bubble bursts the better. Because the damage done may be irreparable.

I’ll pre empt most replies and sum them up with “B-b-b-but the economy!”.
The fact that more than a fifth of our electricity is used by “data centres” and the government seems adamant that we need more and more is bordering on treason at this stage.
We’re letting these tech companies have complete free rein in just about all aspects of society. They’re completely distorting “the economy” and seemingly have no responsibility whatsoever for what goes on on their platforms.
Funny little example, ya know how if you were to flash your lights to warn of a speed camera and a Garda sees you you’ll be in the shit? Yet when I use Google maps in the car it’ll warn me about speed cameras, and ask me if it’s still there.
How is it that an individual doing something is so frowned-upon and basically illegal, yet a foreign company encourages thousands or tens of thousands of people every day to do the same thing is just totally fine?
