It is interesting that the approach for this is having it be undisputedly UK led, and the nations within it seemingly fully understanding and consenting to this based on the UK’s seniority in military budget and capabilities. The UK presumably has been trusted to hold this role but will have to continue to earn this trust.

Might this be the way forward for other defence alliances too led by other European nations, as long as the element of trust is there?

I’m glad to see that my country (Netherlands) is pushing and joining a lot of joint military forces. As someone else already said we already had something in works with Belgium but we also have our army, at least our tank divisions, shared with Germany. I hope it lays the groundwork for an eventual EU combined army.
