    >”Senior Coroner Anne Pember said it was not clear why Mr Beca was in the bin – which was picked up and emptied on Wellington Street, Northampton – before ruling his death as accidental.”

    >”The court heard the lorry driver, Stephen Plowman, had checked the bin Mr Beca was in but could only see cardboard on top.”

    >”In a statement, he said he emptied the bin and turned the blade cycle on shortly before he heard screams.”

    >”On Wednesday Northampton Coroner’s Court heard Mr Beca, whose family have stressed was not homeless, died from organ failure after crush injuries to his pelvis and lower limbs.”

Holy shit I feel so fucking bad for the lorry driver, that’s awful. Why would you hide yourself in a wheelie bin…

Jesus, what an awful story. The account of the driver is also harrowing—an unbelievably traumatic thing to witness, too.

  3. “he said he emptied the bin and turned the blade cycle on shortly before he heard screams” fuckin hell that’s grim

Surprised article / coroner didn’t mention blood alcohol level.

Was it a prank? Why would he hide there? was it close to where he lived? had it been raining and he was seeking shelter. Very odd.

Nobody going to bring up that it looks like he was offed by being stuffed in a bin by Albanian organized crime or their competitors?

Are we just going to pretend that he got smashed and then intentionally hid himself by covering the top of the bin with cardboard causing a freak accident. Seems like the coroner would have found a high blood alcohol in that case?

I know for a fact that waste management companies the world over, have spend millions on trying to solve the person hiding in the bin issue. They can solve it easily but it’s just not cost effective to do so.

Wouldn’t the bin have weighed an absolute ton?

Could the the lorry have flagged it as too heavy?

RIP and my thoughts are with the driver

    >Mr Plowman, who has worked for waste removal company Veolia UK for 15 years, told the court he turned around to see Mr Beca staring at him.

    Nightmare fuel

What a tragedy, loss of life and that poor guy has to now live with it for the rest of his. RIP.

Looks like it was a commercial bin which are quite large and sometimes don’t need to be manoeuvred much to be loaded into the back of the trucks, so there would be limited opportunity to tell something was off in the bin.

Must be harrowing for the driver to have to live with this and for the family having to wonder why he was in such a situation.

I’m currently working on a potential solution to help/assist prevent this, or add a layer of control when an over average waste container has been identified.

It’s not a golden solution but if it prevents one death, it’s a result.

There’s been so many incidents like this which have caused a death and again, so many near misses where the cycle has been stopped because someone has been found tipped into the back of the hopper.

Was it Mr Beca’s wheeliebin? or somebody else’s bin?

“Had dreams of becoming a professional footballer…”
(he was 30 years old. he sort of missed the boat on that dream. suicide by bin lorry?)
