Not sure i get what’s going on here. What is Alumina? Why is it so crucial for Russians? Can’t they produce it by themselves, or import elsewhere? I seem to be confused as to what it is…
>**Alumina**, synthetically produced aluminum oxide, Al2O3, a white or nearly colourless crystalline substance that is used as a starting material for the smelting of aluminum metal.
Is that it? Russia produces millions of tons of aluminium per year. So there’s clearly something that i’m missing here.

Shouting Slava Ukraini is very cheap and very easy. Doing things that will help Ukraine but hurt you costs a ton and is very hard.
Ps: Op could you make a link that is clickable?

We have laws in Ireland to prevent the export of weapons and duel use materials i can’t understand how this russian owned plant hasn’t been sanctioned. The plant itself should have been shut down years ago for environmental reasons

I am really at a loss as to why there is any trade *whatsoever* between Europe and Russia. I mean, I get it – the money is seductive, and there are always people that place cash over intelligence. But why is there not European legislation creating a new iron curtain on the border of Russia-Belarus?
Europe, this war is on your borders and if you don’t do better, it will be in your backyard next.
(And yes, speaking as a Canadian, I also wish we were doing better with it.)

The Irish government should just seize the plant, the same way Russia illegally seized over 2.5 billion euros worth of Irish jets, causing over 8 billion euros in lost business, when the war started. They can return it when the war is over and they have been paid reparations.
