He could’ve done this two years ago after he won the general election.

But he’s only going to do it now because he’s realised he could lose his job and big paycheck.

Amazing what lengths the rich and powerful will go to protect what they have.

  2. grubbygromit on

All the good he tries to do with li ing standards is out done with his attacks on our fundamental rights.
Living standards go up and down, but basic rights never come back know they are gone.

  3. Dry_Acadia_9312 on

Who’s going to pay for it? Someone will get the squeeze so that he can keep his job.

  4. jameshgordy on

Aw, did relying on the corrupt shadow monster and telling the left to leave somehow backfire?

  5. BroodLord1962 on

Oh so now that we have been hammered in the local elections I might actually do something good for the people. Sorry Keir but you clearly haven’t got a clue

“shaking off the fleas” not working out for Kid Starver?

  7. Physical_Heart2766 on

Well, that’s like a fucking year too late.
While you’re at it: how about making every single person pay a MINIMUM of the basic rate of tax after the personal allowance?

I have to hand out my details to a private company to view a bot’s post history that is marked itself as NSFW. This government has created a weird version of the internet that makes it difficult to interrogate what we see under the pretence of protecting minors. I hate them and their criminal incompetence at this stage.

Nationalise water, bring bills down, increase tax thresholds and eat the billionaires.

Now his enemies are winning hes scared and backed into a corner, At least hes doing something I suppose but still annoyed he didn’t do something sooner.

I just hope the 1933 lite version aka reform doesn’t win in 2029

  11. radiant_0wl on

That’s not going to tackle the Reform vote.

Also how is that supposed to happen? Are we not a free market economy?

  12. ihavetakenthebiscuit on

My prediction, this will only benefit pensioners and the lower end of society.

  13. Oh look, that Max Headroom-looking cosplay Tory only cares about living standards when he’s getting battered in the polls.

He needs to be replaced, not given another chance.

  14. homeinthecity on

Unlucky he had no idea this was needed a few days ago.

It drives me to crazy that politicians on the left or centre only seem to suddenly realise they have to actually do things to help ordinary people when it’s too late and they are nearly done.

Why wasn’t this a Day 1 priority? It’s like their jobs are threatened and suddenly they give a shit.

    Blitz?

What’s he going to do, send yet more ordnance to the middle east so it can continue rain down on Palestinians?

  17. Launch_a_poo on

Probably should have done that before the elections Keir…

I doubt anything will change. Writings on the wall for his leadership anyway, his decision to kneecap Andy Burnham is his only saving grace, because there’s very few people who can hope to challenge him.

Wes Streeting is skulking around, but he’s probably the only person less popular than Keir among the party base.

  18. Kamay1770 on

Fickle prick. Only wanting to help when he loses seats.

Why not just fucking do it in the first place.

Also, your online safety rubbish lost my vote!

  19. I feel like it doesn’t matter what he does. Reform voters algorithms will say something else

  20. Kitchen_Contract_489 on

Remove VAT from private schools. I would have voted Labour if I was’t 5k worse off a year.

  21. Far_Excitement_1875 on

Cost of living blitz? Why did he think he was elected in 2024, to sit on his hands for two years and then do his job?!

  22. The best thing Labour could do to protect themselves in the long term is bring in Proportional Representation.

Labour can’t fight off lib dem and the greens and should be aware they will “split the vote” after seeing the local elections.

If they bring in PR there’s a good chance that they’ll survive in the long run. Even with Boris Johnson’s massive win in 2019 if the Lib dems, labour, SNP and greens had combined their total votes it would have beat the tories+brexit party.

Lib dems/SNP could have chose to be kingmaker instead of course but they generally were more aligned with left leaning politics.

This is so refreshing to hear. This needs to be said a lot more. He has a 10 year renewal plan. He’s committed to get it done. Just wish they’d sort out their messaging issue to get this across better.

  24. Gareth_stanlier on

give us an EU ref in 2028, thats all you need to do.

  25. Tony2Nuts on

Yep, there’s a reason nothing is getting better and moving forward as a country. No politicians have the balls to do what’s needed, why? Because we will all bitch and moan about it, the media will jump on board and pile on the pressure until they either resign or are fired. Rinse and repeat! Stagnant country. We need a politician say “fuck it, listen up guys we need to do x,y and z to get this country back on its feet. It’s going to sting and it’s going to be tough”. And to be honest I don’t care if they are likeable or not. Just sort this shit out

Bring down the cost of living and at the same time stop chipping away at our freedoms and right to protest.

Renationalise our water, bring in cheap energy, stop the Enshittification and shrinkflation of goods, services and foodstuffs.

Stop trying to bring in Palantir as a surveillance system and start giving Billionaires a good kicking.

  27. Brilliant_Bowler_994 on

If that was possible why have I been spending so much for so long. He’s not bright. He lost because of immigration related issues. All he has to do is get a bit tough, maybe send the illegal people back and the criminals and he’ll still have a job. This isn’t reflective of my personal wants or wishes I’m just saying he’s not very bright and Is being stubborn when frankly we’re past that. He did well to keep us out of the Iran mini scuffle I’ll give him that. The other parties can’t wait for shekels and would have landed us right in it for personal gain.
