Civilian with a manpad shooting down drones really just sums up the insanity of the world these days

When I was growing up, those things were like $20k/USD on the blackmarket (1980s). I have no idea what they go for now. Yikes. If you got’em, use’em I guess. lol.

I’m legitimately curious. I’m guessing the back blast hitting directly behind in the ground isn’t an issue? Always thought back blast was a big deal.

Or is the back blast on manpads different than anti tank weapons?

Rick helped Mrs. Smith last week brining in her groceries. Yea well, I shot down a drone. Rick isn’t all that cool around here.

9K38 Igla [SA-18 Grouse in NATO parlance] costs $60k-$80k for older [c. 2000 and prior] variants.

While they can be used to down quadcopter-style drones, it is not very cost-effective. Even going after Shahed 136 style drones — which cost $20k-$50k per — you’re on the losing side of a logistical equation.

It is far cheaper, though arguably less effective, to use traditional antiaircraft guns [20 – 30 mm autocannon, or machine guns].

The most effective countermeasures for drones these days is increasingly other drones.

All that said, I am certain it was satisfying to shoot back at the bastards.
