La settimana scorsa ho preso parte all’evento Modello NATO dell’Università del Kansas condotto dal Comando alleato per la trasformazione della NATO. Ho avuto l’opportunità di assumere il ruolo di rappresentante permanente della Svezia e di prendere parte a una sessione realistica del Consiglio Nord Atlantico. È stata una bellissima esperienza e sono davvero orgoglioso di ciò che la Svezia sta facendo sulla scena mondiale.
Sono sicuro che voi ragazzi probabilmente siete stufi delle scuse degli americani, ma volevo anche dire che c’è ancora spazio per l’amore nel cuore del popolo americano per la Svezia, la NATO e il mondo. Chiamami irrimediabilmente ottimista, ma sto studiando Diplomazia e Relazioni Internazionali per costruire questo amore. In quanto cinese americano con esperienza di vita sia negli Stati Uniti che in Cina, capisco cosa significhi colmare le divisioni che molte persone ritengono impossibili.
Ho visitato la Svezia l’estate scorsa e ricordo di aver visto la bandiera americana sventolare in cima al Grand Hotel e di essermi toccato dal fatto che potesse esserci ancora spazio per l’amore nei cuori degli svedesi per gli Stati Uniti. La mia esperienza in Svezia mi ha fatto sentire davvero che è un posto bellissimo con persone gentili e una storia profonda.

I believe most Swedes, once they reflect on it, realize there is a difference between the American people and the current administration. The developments in the U.S. are more about neglected institutions and corrupted systems than necessarily about the American population itself.
That said, there’s no escaping the fact that what this administration is doing right now is shattering a world order. Unfortunately, trust in the U.S. has been destroyed for generations to come.

Please stop apologising on behalf of your country – if you’re horrified by what’s going on, then it is not for you to apologise.
That said, I would be happy to have a beer and recommend the local sites to you, and ask for any Kansas specialities. It’s really cool that you got to participate in the mock NATO event. Should you ever return, I would like to recommend the coast of Bohuslän. It doesn’t get more beautiful than that.

I’m sorry to say but they only fly that flag because it makes the hotel look more international. There’s a lot of animosity after the US tried to influence Greenland from Denmark, who despite their language sounding like someone talking w/ a hot potato in their mouth: are culturally brothers to Swedes. Not to mention everything else the US is doing internally to it’s own citizens. US culture permeates most countries, and a lot of Swedes do like visiting and even living in the US in normal times (well, there’s usually at least c. 100 in the NHL across the US and Canada lol), there isn’t that much “love in the swedish people’s hearts for the U.S.”… Here’s hoping the orange paedophile is kicked out soon enough!

100% correct! Apologizing in that instance is more for the people doing the apologizing, so they can feel better about themselves.
