Cool
I didn’t even realise this was overly big over in NA. It’s especially surprising considering Alex Newhook and Jake Evans are still playing now
Is this real? Their website is a few fancy “artists impressions” of what it might look like. Is there anything official? Planning permission? Detailed plans?
*edit, Looking at the existing images on the DMOD website it will sit *at* junction 16, first plot on the south… which has been used for topsoil for the last 5 years, but now they are actively doing other works there, and building a road. This whole thing stinks.
When matches aren’t on, thaw the ice and run a state-of-the-art white water rafting facility, even more popular than ice hockey.
I wonder if Dublin could get a hockey team in the uk league after building this?
€250m ? Change it to a B and it’d be closer to the final figure
Belfast is the template for having a succesful ice hockey team in an area that it might seem a bit mad at first. The Dublin team would be playing in the British league with Belfast. A big derby already built in and potential for the two teams to be the best in the league. If the arena can book as many outside events as the Odyssey does and the team is marketed as well as the Giants it’ll be a big success.
Can’t wait for a pile of haters to start talking shit about building a rink in Ireland.
Hur durr imagine building a white water kayak facility where you can’t even play GAA OR rugby. So stuuuupid.
Id honestly love to give this a try when it’s built.. Getting into Ice Hockey is stupidly expensive 🙁
As someone who moved to Canada and absolutely fell in love with hockey I think Irish people would absolutely love it as a sport. Fast, skillful, rough. Hope it does well.
Also you’ll all have stop calling it ice hockey. Just hockey LOL
I have no issue with this project. I have an issue with the government providing money to build the facility. If this is viable private money will build it. If it is not viable without government aid then I don’t think it is a deserving recipient of government money.
There will be outrage for it because “who’s asking for a rink”, but the reality is that the seasonal rinks in Dublin are wall to fucking wall every time they open.
And naturally, we are a perfect crowd for actual ice hockey, it’s rough as fuck, fast paced, and the atmosphere of being at a match is honestly hard to match.
Dubs on ice!
Very excited about this as an Irish hockey fan. I’ve been up to Giants games and the experience is fantastic. I know hockey isn’t big here but the proof it can work is just up the M1.
As a big ice hockey fan, I’ll be hoping this gets off the ground.
I can’t wait to be playing and coaching on the ice
This is what capitalism is all about. These guys have the money and they think they know better than all of us who think its a bad idea and won’t work in Dublin. So let them take all the risk and if it works, let them keep the profit. Its better than Dublin city council deciding to use our own money to build a white water ~~elephant~~ rafting centre. And its far better than RTE using our money on a lat late toy show musical. Capitalism has its uses.
They should reopen the Dundalk Ice Dome
Is this private equity investinng to make a good profit off the richest 10%?
Or will the government also waste money on this to further subsidise the rich?
This is happening in the US:

Great news.
If this gets off the ground I’ll be pretty excited, ngl. I love ice skating but the little temporary rinks around the holidays are generally awful, having a proper permanent one would be nice.
There was a rumour that TKO is eyeing having Wrestlemania in Dublin in the future. Is the government making a push to turn Ireland into a live sports hub?
