Before the Elections, trouble the TCN ,so a portion of maltese people will be happy and stay in power.

This isn’t going to last long. Many companies would suffer considering the working pace of ID Malta.

I can see where they are coming from really to tie in a license to a valid work permit after the recent incident but if the process is anything like getting a residence renewal it is going to be painful!

I hope it will pass. Maybe we wil make our roads more civilized

What do you expect when half the cab drivers are TCNs driving with the same lack of discipline as they do back home. Take a look at the state of our roads and think again.

      >As well, this implies that you can no longer use your driver’s licence on another EU state, after your Maltese residence permit has expired. Certainly against EU laws.

Does it? Rather it implies that the issued license will expire on the same day as the residence permit, doesn’t it? I don’t see how it would impinge on any EU laws.

I can understand why this is happening though. Many TCNs use Malta as a stepping stone to other EU countries – they stay for 1-3 year and then (presumably legally) move on to other EU states.

However, driving licenses are typically issued for 10 years – which means that they will continue to be used in countries other than Malta for a long time. Transport Malta will receive a large number of data requests from their counterparts in other EU countries regarding verification of validity, penalty points, etc. Totally understanding that they don’t want to keep having to deal with that shit long after a temporary resident has left the country…

Having said that, they would need to streamline the processes because the number of renewals will skyrocket – licenses will effectively need to be renewed every year. They’d probably need to have some sort of buffer between the expiry of a residence permit and the expiry of a driving license, otherwise TCNs will not legally be able to drive for the days/weeks between expiry an renewal (also if renewal is dependent on the residence permit being renewed, then they can only apply for driving license renewal *after* the receipt of the renewed residence permit). Unless this has been considered, it sounds like a bad plan…

Tajjeb. Importanti ma nibqgħux niddependu fuq il-jasar biex ir-rota tkompli ddur. Jekk ir-rota jkollha tieqaf, aħjar tieqaf u nerġgħu nibnu kollox mill-ġdid. Forsi lill-jassara li jġibu l-ħaddiema jaqtgħulhom iż-żejża. Lil dawn il-ħaddiema għandna nagħtuhom somma ċkejkna biex jaqtgħu d-dejn li għamlu u jkollhom xi ħaġa fuw xiex jistrieħu u jibdew ħajja ġdida u nibagħtuhom id-dar. Mhux b’kattiverija imma bi ħniena.
