How come so many people were granted citizenship in Armenia last year compared to Azerbaijan and Georgia?

      Multiple reasons,

      For Azerbaijan :
Azerbaijan doesn’t allow dual citizenship, not a lot of people are interested in renouncing their first citizenship + not the most advantageous citizenship

      For Georgia :
Less non-citizen Georgians in the world compared to Armenians, Armenians are a much bigger diaspora so more eager to take Armenian citizenship

maybe a bit irrelevant, but i’m one of those people who can’t prove their heritage on paper because millions of records were lost (well, burned, due to the “conflicts”) over a century ago. and especially in rural settlements, record-keeping was never really much of a thing anyway. while i’m not particularly concerned about gaining another citizenship, i would’ve loved some form of recognition from respectful countries. it’s just sad to think about in general. an identity lost through generations, never to be fully replenished 🥀

      1) Armenia’s nationality law is generous and permissive, allowing anyone to become a citizen provided they can demonstrate they have at least one grandparent of Armenian ethnicity or nationality. Neither Georgia nor Azerbaijan have such laws.

      2) Overwhelming majority: Russian nationals (of Armenian descent) seeing the direction their country is going and diversifying/creating an exit strategy. Same logic but to a lesser extent are Ukranian, Syrian, Lebanese, and Iranian nationals of Armenian ethnicity.

      3) The Armenian passport has realistic prospects of getting EU visa-free travel in the next five years. This is a major boon to Armenians not already in a developed country.
