There is indeed an « environmental contribution » of 0,5 euro per person per night up to 5 euro max.

I know this is unsolicited, but in my opinion Mercury Towers is a piece of shit and not worth the money. You are going to be based smack dab in the noisiest, most polluted part of Malta, and the apartments do not justify the price.

You’re better off staying at one of the many nice boutique hotels in Malta.

eco tax is a real thing – i run an airbnb
usually our guests give it to us cash and we give them a receipt and it goes directly to the government

you can read about it on the malta tourism authority site

      It’s not a scam.
However some really abide to it and do it online exactly like that.

Some ask for it to be paid in cash / coins and some don’t bother at all.

I’ve stayed at Mercury tower multiple times.

      I honestly liked it
The studios are new, comfy, if you’re in a high floor you have nice views.

If you’re into partying it’s the perfect location, if not you can go anywhere you want easily.

If you’re seeking a quiet type area then paceville is not the place.

It’s a perfect place for a group of young people looking for parties, bars, meeting others etc. sure it has its downsides (trash, noise etc) but when I used to party and going out a lot I didn’t care about such things.

You’ll also have to pay a sanity tax, but don’t fret: you pay that with your soul.

*Unless you like this sort of thing, of course…*

Hold on – you’re willing to pay €1200 to stay in the ugliest building in the ugliest and dirtiest part of Malta and you’re wondering if the €4 government eco contribution is a scam?
