Almost like with most social media it isn’t for kids ffs

I don’t get why banning social media for under 16s is such an issue.
There is no end of research and studies supporting how harmful it is for them. Ban it. And fine layabout parents who bypass it for their kids.

It’s weird that Ofcom has selected just these two platforms to criticise. Are they implying that Instagram, Snapchat and the rest ARE safe for kids.

No shit, Sherlock – it’s properly poisonous stuff on there- you put something normal on and soon enough the next thing is either political or just plain creepy

How are we not looking at what’s happening the the US and saying we shouldn’t allow billionaire to pump 24/7 propaganda poison into our minds?
Given what Fox News has done, why are GB News allowed to just have current sitting politicians lying constantly and pretending to be journalism?

Yeaaaah that’s right take away their YouTube and tik tok I’m sure there won’t be a knock on effect tied in to the fact that there’s naff all to do these days that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg where you wind up with a bunch of kids with nada better to do than crime. Sounds dramatic, but it would be just another thing that they cannot do.
Not to mention that yet again this has nothing to do with the children and everything to do with putting in measures to monitor our online activity

youtube ain’t safe for kids? And? YouTube has a 13+ age rating and anyone younger from this is breaking the terms of service and should have their account banned as is written in the rules for the platform That the “person” has already agreed to..
Youtube KIDS exists for those under 14 so if the parents parent and actually put them on the right shit there is no problem at all…

Couldn’t you just ban advertising on social media and make them subscription only?

Nowhere is safe now, quite a lot of the internet now is built to monetise people into whatever the maker desires and kids are no exception.
Forget online surveillance and policing the internet, you’ll be in a whack-a-mole game until every right of a person is under your control.
We have to start targeting parents and teaching them how to survey their children properly. We’ve got all the router protection rules provided by ISPs, specifically curated shows such as playlists for your kid on YouTube, TV unironically enough as that does a lot of filtering for you + you can link your YouTube playlists to the TV, and if it’s games they want to play specifically curate the games yourself.
Leaving your parenting responsibilities to the internet and the App Store without parental control is essentially saying I don’t care about my child and in some way is a form of abuse.
I grew up with the internet, so I know kids are easily impressionable and they’re likely to mimic the things they love. That’s why you have to be there for them.
You’ll never leave your kid with a stranger, and I’ll say leaving your kid to the internet is essentially leaving them with strangers you don’t know.
Make parents parent their kid. The government shouldn’t do it for them unless they have anterior motives.
And dare I say it YouTube kids is like a den of lions. As a new uncle the creators there are likely to min max your child’s attention for profit. Rotting their brain with all sorts of slop like pregnancy Minecraft videos… It’s disgusting.
Again be there for them. To many aspects of this world seek to entrap and enthrall your child.

Let me explain the correct vector of responsibility for some of you knuckleheads…
The real world is not for children. Parents MUST keep their child safe.
You don’t put a child on a train line and blame the train.
You don’t put a child on a public road and blame the road users.
Your offspring is not everyone else’s responsibility so stop giving them access to the internet.

Well those websites do ask you to confirm your age as kids arnt ment to use them. If they do that’s on the parents

We all know why they are cracking down. They realised that they have lost a whole generation that became immune to their propaganda. Parents should police kids internet usage, not the state.
