Blatant blackmail.
Armenia should overcome the short term pain caused by Russian blackmail and economic, political, security challenges as as to get the long term benefits of the EU and democratization, rule of law. The whole of society effort is needed. It will be painful, have no doubts about that, but the EU integration and western investments/opportunities are more than worth of the short term pain.

I am sure this was expected by the government. Russians were not hiding their intentions, and knowing how they operate like a bitter ex, this should not be a surprise.
Wish we have started the pipeline construction with Iran sooner though. Although we are told that even the current pipeline should be able to cover Armenia’s internal needs.
The second they actually do this, they will lose one of few leverages they had left. Honestly stupid and pure blackmail.

Do it. Armenia can finally reach out to Iran for oil and China for better solar panel/battery tech.
I have 2 questions
A) will armenia be sanctioned or punished for trading energy with oil to iran?
B) is this the only leverage that russia has on armenia (likely not), if not what else?
The only way forward is to let Russia do it. We cannot break those contracts, the price will be crippling.
They have to cut gas or try retaliatory gas increases first, and those letters and comments are THE proof we will need when we go to Stockholm for arbitration (per contract). There are 3 contracts on gas, the strongest of which is the contract with Gazprom the company. One of the contracts with Russia is extremely weak, because we’re on the hook for all the years when any party breaks it. Those who signed those contracts should be flogged in the streets.
But it’s not hopeless. It may be hard, but we have to overcome this.
Let them leave. 200 years of Russian influence that has destroyed and extracted so much wealth and progress. We need to focus on our actual neighbors and make sure to keep them out collectively from the region. They have complicated things so much.
