Mercoledì quasi 400 studenti diplomandi hanno trasformato il centro di Vilnius in una sala da ballo all’aperto, mentre un record di 198 coppie hanno eseguito la Polonaise in una celebrazione di lunga data della tradizione polacca e della fine dei loro anni scolastici.

Back then when graduating and equally now when I’m an old git, I get teary whenever I hear it. The moment when the brass drops is really powerful, can’t explain it. Our national anthem doesn’t do that for me, but Polonaise does. Hundreds of years of history rolled into one. I mean just look at the grace and pride they carry themselves with. None of that will they, won’t they courtship nonsense. Unity, courtesy, equality, partnership and respect, all the way through.
When dancing it, we felt like these big lanky loosers as stiff as broomsticks, but all the girls we knew from our class suddenly morphed into ladies, and carried us through it.
The thing’s a masterpiece, not just this rendition.
