Might as well have banned any religious symbols period, to at least be consistent. Sure, we don’t and will never have problems with burqas (they’re not common anyway) and Muslim communities here (as we didn’t with Christians, Jews, Hindus or Sikhs), and will be slightly bad optics for those who want to come and contribute to Portuguese society, but at least it’ll validate and encourage primal hate among a tiny segment of the population that will see it as a new baseline, while making life for some people just a tiny bit worse. That includes those who downvoted this comment, lol
What happens with those individuals wearing hoodies and scarves across their faces, combined with sunglasses?
Make the rule equitable and not discriminatory.
If there’s a specific reason to stop obscuring most of a person’s head, then that can be codified in law.
Edit: for those not understanding, do you want ICE ‘warriors’ from the USA walk-in your streets?
I get it, but it’s apparently now illegal in Portugal for people go out in public dressed however they want to be dressed. Wearing the clothes that they want to wear.
This is why Portugal is basically just a “stop over” tourist country and has no input whatsoever on how the world is actually run.
They have great beaches, and that’s basically it.

Disurbing to see European governments making laws to restrict what women can wear like this.
I am sure Amnesty didn’t cpmplain about any human rights or woman rights violations in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Egypt, Iran etc.but Portugal, yes, big issues when it comes to womens rights /s
