Because they were undoubtedly threatened by billionaire lawyers that they’d be sued into oblivion if they didn’t.
It really is a damning indictment on this country that it is currently less legally risky to be a member or supporter of a hate group, than it is to criticise a hate group. It’s insane that, in our legal system, legitimate criticism of bigots can be forced into silence, simply because money speaks louder than truth when lawsuits are threatened.
Important to mention, this happened after J.K.Rowling offered to bankroll anyone who wanted to sue amnesty UK or amnesty international for basically anything to do with trans people.
This move is considered by many to simply be amnesty trying to appease a billionaire who’s threatening to bury them in legal fees as a result of this.
J.K.Rowling is also in the news right now for sharing upskirts of a trans journalist recently because the trans woman didn’t want to debate her (Rowling was dead naming and misgendering said journalists in all her requests so it’s no surprise, although the journalist has not commented as to why). When asked why she would share revenge porn of a trans woman where it would obviously be wrong to do to a cis woman she basically responded saying something to the effect of trans women being perverts who get off on it anyway so it’s fine. I can’t remember exact wording.
This is to say the idea that she’s opposed to respecting the basic rights of trans people is pretty well supported by actions such as posting what is essential non-consensual revenge porn of them.
To be clear, they self-reported to the watchdog because it is required for them to submit a serious incident report because their finances have been threatened. They haven’t broken any rules as a charity.
JK Rowling is making us more like America every day, where she’ll just sue anyone who stands up to her and her prejudiced campaign against trans people.

I hope it’s eventually studied just how well Rowling has managed to go from being one of the most beloved children’s authors to completely destroying her legacy over pure hatred of people just trying to live their lives. She truly is a vile human being.
