Lo chiedo come turco che è scettico sull’invasione e vuole ascoltare l’altro lato della storia in ogni modo.
Nel mio punto di vista: EOKA-B era pessimo. Anche l’invasione turca è stata brutta. Spero in una Cipro riunificata che permetta a tutti di vivere liberamente.

There is no benefit for Greek Cypriots in reunification and only pain. You’d have to tell the refugees they will never get their land back. You’d have to accept the Turks who came here 50 years ago, and their children and grandchildren, are Cypriot citizens. You’d have to accept Turkish Cypriots having huge amounts of political power affecting international relations. And what do you gain?

It’s obvious by the way things unfolded that this was not about protecting anyone. Right now Turkish Cypriots are a minority compared to settlers. There are frequent complaints (in this sub and elsewhere) that their language and culture is fading and are vocal about them not enjoying the current state of things.
Societies dont form around harmony
I’m sure that if given the chance for a fair solution majority of Cypriots on both sides would vote in favor of the BBF. Sadly everything is up to Turkey and not the Cypriots, as they’ve been slowly trying to accelerate the annexation of the north.
Personally I don’t believe a federal state is the best solution for Cyprus, but in the end of the day its either that or Cyprus staying divided permanently.
unification is the best future but realistically nothing is going to change with the politics involved, also the combination of nationalists and legal mostly land related issues make it even harder.
I would be very surprised if in the 15 years there is any real change, the only thing that seems to be happening is the north slowly getting recognition globally, not politically but by companies since its good for business

united cyprus just isn’t possible, and it’s not about turkey;
if another large country were in Turkey’s place, the same situation would still exist. because northern cyprus is extremely important due to its location and provides massive contributions to Turkey. it is so important that no country could ignore it.
If the TRNC administration completely backs down from its claim to independent statehood and instead shifts its focus to demanding international recognition of Turkish Cypriots (TCs) as a distinct, equal community, the geopolitical landscape changes significantly.
Palastine didn’t declared statehood they first got the

Denktash’s not cooked rushed declaration can be the biggest political mistake for TC stance and Turkey’s narrative. This declaration happened during the transition time between the Turkish military junta and the civilian government in a rush.
Saying TCs are equal, the founder of Cyprus and the TRNC are legitimate states that conflict with each other.
These are untold and unspoken truths that are not voiced by any of the actors.

China has a hard stance on any separatist action as a permanent UNSC member. Politics can change in Russia, the UK, Europe, the US, but China’s stance depends on what I wrote above. Because China has a hardline “One China” policy regarding Taiwan.

IMO 2017 talks were the breaking point, opinions shifted, Turkish government or public no longer supports unification and only leverage EU h
ad over Turkey, the EU membership, is also obviously impossible.
Status quo will keep going because neither side will give in. Only in the distant future, if power balance changes so much, either EU has to appease Turkey and recognizes Northren Cyprus or Turkey has to withdraw troops for one reason or another.
