Not sure why the BBC don’t just block users from accessing their content if they don’t pay the fee instead of sending legal threats to people? The same way if u stop paying for Netflix, you simply lose access to their content. Like there’s a reason people aren’t even bothering with the BBC anymore.

The BBC has been, and continues to be, a National Treasure.
It obviously has made blunders and frankly disgusting practice/errors. And we shouldn’t forget that.
But the impact on UK culture, the world stage, and so much more, has been unrivaled. I think it is truly undervalued and underappreciated.

Im sure that the BBC does provide a lot of value to those who use it. Im sure the educational show etc are really good. But the simple fact is I don’t use it so i shouldn’t have to pay for it.
The one now basically says, “Remember us? We used to be good!”
They could just be better to bring back customers.
But rather than do the hard work of proving to people they are worth the cost, they have gone bitching to the government and rolled out millionaires on their payroll to tell us they are worth it.
Is Romesh’s cash cow running out of money? His makeover must have cost a bit.
Its always amazing that the people most against the BBC are the ones most likely to complain about other people not respecting our culture.

I am not against a TV license but it needs to represent actual value for money and for me, someone that would only watch a handful of shows on it a year, the price is crazy.
My first thought about that ad is that it’s listing historic benefits, not really all that much in the way of current ones.
You’ve got three camps who oppose paying the BBC license fee:
1. People who don’t consume the content and therefore don’t feel it should be paid.
2. People who oppose the content for political/moral reasons.
3. People who remember the BBC knowingly covered up for child molesters for decades. (And why should they believe it no longer does?)
I don’t think this ad really addresses any of those people.
All I ask the BBC to do is please stop sending those god awful threatening letters. In an age where we are supposed to be vigilant of vulnerable people how is it acceptable?
I don’t particularly remember her because she died when I was young but my Great grandmother was supposed to have all her bills being dealt with through a family member but one for whatever reason was missed. She ended up dying after being found living in the shed eating paint.. she thought she was in trouble..

This ad is not going to convince anyone to pay the licence fee if they have stopped paying. How much did it cost to do this?
I do like the BBC and have real fond memories of it when younger. Did create some of the best comedy shows in human history.
I rarely find anything I want to watch on iplayer when I check these days. Find myself watching old shows from years ago and none of their recent stuff looks interesting to me.
For someone who doesn’t watch most of the ‘prime time’ BBC shows anymore I don’t understand why they went with Romesh, is he the current ‘go to’ for any BBC shows?
Thing is, the BBC like to pretend the option is that we either have the BBC as it currently exists or we get rid of the whole thing.
Personally, I’m fine with the BBC doing news, documentary and educational output – but I don’t think it needs to be doing entertainment. My view is that you could slash 90% of its current output with no threat to the core principles of public service broadcasting.
The true area where there is a massive public interest gap is local news. Local journalism is dead and that’s an area I’d respect the BBC for filling. But I don’t need yet another middle-of-the-road series with the same cast of actors all tiptoeing around culture war issues.
The BBC is also completely celebrity obsessed, always trying to get the big names and faces. Stop it – we don’t need celebs and their extortionate fees when it comes to public broadcasting. Give us up and coming faces, act as a training ground for serious journalists and presenters.
As someone who never watches the BBC (not for political reasons – just that there’s nothing on any of their channels that appeals to me) this is yet another BBC programme I will not see.
Terrible, awful, distasteful propaganda. I was already pissed off by the ridiculously long half time break then they play this. I don’t watch any of their shit, nor do I find Romesh funny at all. I do pay for a tv licence. I think I’m now going to stop paying.

As someone who stopped watching live TV some years ago and consequently stopped paying the licence fee, how is an advert on a platform that I don’t watch going to persuade me to pay £180 for something I don’t need?
Because the system simply doesn’t make sense with modern technology, global reach of broadcasters, streaming.
Either add a blanket tax (I’d be against it, but at least it would make sense) or find another way to fund/charge for BBC services.

Well let’s see. They were the main mouthpiece for Project Fear, and the social division it fuelled. They emboldened a minority of remainers to act as though they had moral or insightful superiority over the majority.
They promoted foreign influence to meddle in our domestic referendum. They unseated the best of our recent PMs with endless negative messaging.
They actively excluded white people from certain recruitment drives. They were straight off the blocks when describing Axel Rudakubana as a lonely Welsh Choirboy. Etc etc.
TL;DR : The beeb is full of shit and stopped representing normal opinions way back in the distant past.

I’m a supporter of the BBC but that felt unbelievably smug to me, at points it bordered on patronising. It felt a bit like when the Remain campaign preached to the converted but turned off people sitting on the fence. Is anyone not sure about paying the licence fee really going to be convinced by Louis Theroux standing in front a giant off switch and saying “we can turn it off if you want”?
Doesn’t rebooting just confirm they ran out of ideas long ago?
And I was still left asking the question, what has the BBC done for me.
Unforgivable bias and agenda pushing. It’s being used as a tool to gaslight and hoodwink a nation to accept a certain way of living. It has shot itself in the foot with its cherry picked reporting and misinformation. And for these reasons, I won’t be sorry to see it forced into a subscription only service.
I will miss the nature shows though.
It’s literally already a subscription based system with extra steps, just make it official. Pay for an account or loose access, simple.
It’s tricky. I do appreciate the BBC, but I barely use it. I still pay the licence fee, but do I watch £15 worth of programming a month? No. However, I valued it a lot when my son was younger for Cbeebies.
I think the best way forward is to fund public broadcasting via tax. Many countries still have a tax payer funded service, but everyone pays it via general tax.
It would see a drop in funding, but potentially charging for iPlayer in Netflix style subscription might help cover that gap along with money coming from BBC Studios.
Maintain BBC 1, 2, CCeebies (I’m not sure the audience for CBBC will exist for much longer) and News service. As well as BBC radio (while a TV licence isn’t required for radio, it is still used to fund it). TV stations would have (even) more repeats and less new shows with the iPlayer getting premieres X amount of time before they eventually air on the broadcast channels.
I think what sticks in people’s craw is that the BBC have generous packages for their stars and every year, we seem to find out that one of them is involved in some scandal. All this in a cost of living crisis, not to mention.
I liked the BBC once, but its support for the Brexit campaign, allowing people to lie about the so-called benefits of Brexit helped push Britain into a dark place, both economically and politically.
The licence fee is parasitic. Making people pay to listen to Farage and Tice go on political programmes and push Russian talking points, while slowly helping to bring the country down, is the final nail in the BBC’s own coffin. Sadly, they’re still at it.
Maybe they can keep BBC News and the odd nature documentary to sell to the streaming platforms, but as for the rest of it, let them reap what they have sown
Now they are trying to include Netflix and Disney plus for a tv licence it’s a con. More people need to cancel and stop using it. Maybe will teach them to stop paying stupid salaries to top earners

I don’t understand why everyone in the UK whinges so much about the licence fee when it covers so many valuable services. In Germany everyone has to pay the licence fee as soon as you register at your address. It also costs more – **£220 per year** compared to the UK’s **£180 per year, and the quality and content is much less.**
**In the UK we support our creative industries. Otherwise we leave more of a vacuum for US tech giants to take over.**

Cancelled mine a few weeks back after paying it for years (even though I no longer use their services). Was paying for a while out of general belief that it’s a good thing (they make some good telly and radio) but their constant platforming and soft treatment of far right conmen like farage, whilst they grill, smear, or ignore sincere left wing candidates like Corbyn and Polanski is hard to ignore.
Plus the incredibly biased Gaza coverage, well documented hierarchy of language used to minimise what many experts are calling a genocide, and defamation against valid protests such as the whole bob vylan glasto debacle, just leave such a sour taste.
It has become clear to me that their impartiality is totally compromised and they are at best a right wing propaganda outfit in disguise. I wouldn’t pay for Fox News so why should I pay them… Sad to see it go like this but they won’t see another penny off me unless they drastically turn things around.
