      The story goes that two journalists spotted a French flag flying over Brussels that day and rushed to a local shopkeeper, asking her to quickly stitch together a flag in the new Belgian colours instead. The painting captures that exact moment, with Édouard Ducpétiaux and Lucien Jottrand (one of the flag’s co creators) shown looking on.

      Franskiljons die iets in elkaar flansen en de rest mag de gevolgen dragen. Het was een voorteken. 😉

      Did anyone else interpret this at first read as if OP wrote that someone was flying over Brussels in 1830? 😅
