The EU needs to rethink this scheme – it obviously doesn’t work (and it’s not just affecting Brits but people from all over the world ) .

Anyone thinking of flying somewhere for a weekend break!

    4. EntireFishing on

Fly into Palma yesterday at midday. 30 mins at passport control. No bother at all
      .don’t believe the hype

    5. Namerakable on

Do most people not try and arrive 3 hours early anyway? I’ve been told that’s the standard since I was little.

    6. RandomPCUser8 on

What I don’t understand is why bother when you can only drop hold luggage off 2-3 hours before your flight? Then the border checks only tend to be on the way to your departure gate, which they normally only tell you an hour (if you’re lucky) before your flight.

    7. AnorexicLlama28 on

Bullshit. I fly often. It takes a bit longer but it’s not a massive pain. And I say that as a person with the unique skill of always managing to choose the slowest queue

    8. Feeling_Zucchini_886 on

Depends on the airport – in Munich they only allow bags less than 2 hours before departure – from bitter experience

    9. zippyzebra1 on

It’s similar to before. If you land at the same time as other flights it will take forever if not then you are through straight away. Been to Pisa and Tenerife and no problems at all.

    10. What’s the point? The bag drop counter doesn’t open until 2 hours from flying

    11. PossibleOwl9481 on

Confused. Don’t biometric passports already register face and prints for you?

    12. Chrognome on

What exactly is the point in this when bag drop usually only opens 2-3 hours prior to departure 😂

Does anyone know if Eurostar is equally fucked… going soon!

I’ve travelled twice since it was implemented without issue? Sample size of one (two?) and annecdotal so..

Faro was horrendous a week ago. There was only one actual desk open and hundreds (including myself) queuing for 2 hours after being rejected at the E gates. There were no police or airport security, groups of people queue jumping and tempers flaring to say the least. I made my flight with 2 minutes to close of boarding.
The E gates are a mess, but I would say the airport management are compounded problem, quite possibly on purpose, who knows. There is a huge accident waiting to happen here.

Got stuck in a 2 hour queue to get into Lisbon yesterday.

The actual EES registration thing was fine, there were plenty if kiosks where you scan your passport and finger prints. But then they decided to have 3 shit Egates that didnt work and 2 staff checking passports for those that could not get through the not working Egates.

They have just implemented it really really badly.

Flying back tonight so will just get there early and hang out at the airport I guess, pain in the ass.

    17. AbbaTheHorse on

We’re being asked to get to the airport at least four hours before our flight? I didn’t realise my dad had been put in charge of official flying advice.

    18. Spare-Garden9947 on

      I travelled last week
      The airport wasn’t the problem
Most issues came attempting to cross into Croatia from Bosnia. Not enough booths in operation and the need for photographing every non EU person. At one point it was taking around 2.5 hours to get through

    19. kelleehh on

Been to the Netherlands and France this month and didn’t have any issues 🤷🏼‍♀️. The news just loves to piss people off.

    20. Despite what you think of brexit, stay/leave/whichever, they had two years to sort these vital things out before it happened. Instead chose to drag their feet and get bogged down in the paperwork that they created by the foot dragging, rather than be proactive in dealing with it at the time.

    21. Feeling_Pen_8579 on

I fly frequently, using both my British passport and my Irish passport, I’ve honestly not really seen the massive issues that people bang on about, the longest we waited was 25 minutes in Gran Canaria and that was on implementation, the usual slog is actually coming back to the UK, where going through Gatwick or Stansted border check takes well in excess of an hour.

    22. Sea-Competition5778 on

I’m a staunch remainer but I swear we see an article like this every month and nothing changes.

    23. jack5624 on

Flown 3 times since this thing has come into force and not had any issues turning up 1.5 hours before my flight

    24. Saw_Boss on

I flew through (pun intended) last week on both flights. Probably the fastest I’ve been through security etc since Brexit.

    25. judas2307 on

In & out of Las Palmas 4 times since this was introduced and not once needed to do any biometric nonsense.

Straight to the E-gate and through, both ways

    26. Efficient_Sky5173 on

Brexiteers don’t care. They never left their town. They voted Leave because they want protection from the local government.

    27. EES/ETIAS equally disgust visa waiver countries, including countries EU should has no beef on, such as Australia, Japan, Canada, etc, not just the British. EU seems to discourage everyone from coming, not just disgusting the British for Brexit.

The message this gives me is clear – don’t come to EU, you non-Schengen foreigner.

    28. griffinish13 on

Flew back from Palma on Sunday – massive queue with people following this and being there earlier. BA ended up making an announcement that they were only checking in our flight so we ended up skipping the whole queue – so you get up earlier but still have to wait around longer for no reason!

    29. Trudestiny on

Getting to airport early only helps if you have no checked luggage. Most check-ins in Eu open 2 hrs before so you still have less than 1.5 hrs to get thru immigration

    30. struwilkie on

Landed in Naples and was through the checks and passport control within 20 mins. Same with departing.

    31. Final-Application1 on

How to show up 4h before when bag drop often opens 2h before flight?

    32. CarlMacko on

Arrive 4 hours early, but bags can’t be checked in till 2 hours before.

By way of a minor hack, consider where you fly into, and what proportion of flights are inbound from Brexitland. This year I breezed through EES on entry at Seville, from what I’ve seen it would’ve been horrendous at Faro, where I spent most of my trip, and exited from. I coincidently did the same last year where outbound flights were too expensive. Enter Schengen seamlessly at Geneva on the last flight in the evening, 8hrs at cheap airport hotel across the road, flew GVA-FAO early next morning with no border controls on arrival in Faro.

    35. Kim_catiko on

Didn’t people do this anyway? I’ve always arrived way early.

    36. PianistAvailable on

It’s not something that can really be fixed by getting to the airport earlier honestly. Had a layover flight mid-June, and even checking in early I wouldn’t learn what gate my flight had been assigned until at most an hour before gate closure.

The delays are no problem on an arriving flight, but on departure the delays in the EES are absurd, at least in Sweden in particular. I would’ve missed my flights were it not for staff having to pull people directly out of the queues to put them in front so they could catch their flights in time.

    37. Narrow-Praline-7908 on

Total bullshit. I’ve travelled 4 times in the last month.

    38. shossa01 on

Arrive 4 hours early, can’t drop bags until 3 hours before take-off. Then flights are delayed by another 2-4 hours.

      Yeah nah.
