Mi sto solo chiedendo. Ho visto la parola gololedz e so che è “gołoledź” ma sembra strano. C’è una ragione dietro questo? A volte ricevo un sms dalla banca o da T-Mobile ed è incasinato, ma quando scrivo a qualcuno mi permette di usarlo. Perché sta accadendo?

also fuck polish signs they are non sensical and stupid and like 90% of cases useless. Written form should follow spoken form not the other way around. Because of this stupid polish rule where writen is superior to spoken warsaw polish became the polish language where most of poland didn’t spoke it. they had their own versions of polish. For example krakow polish was second most used but it was pretty much entirely ridden off due to socialists in prl forcing everyone to teach warsaw polish.

You see, im not sure how Polish you are OP but most of us would get it: diacritics elongate the SMS, if it exceeded the limit of 151 signs it would have to be sent in 2 messages
They do not get polish diacritics probably because when you use polish symbols you can write less in the sms. When you use polish symbols its like 70 letters per one sms, but when using only latin aplhabet its around 150. Something to do with coding the sms

You are limiting yourself to 70 characters if you use polish diacritics (16 bit coding instead of the old standard GSM 7 or 8 bit coding). So instead of that, they skip them so they can use the 160 character limit and keep it in one message.
SMS size is 1120 bits, divide it by the values above and you will get the maximum character length depending on the coding.
Diacritics are not a part of base GSM alphabet. If you decide to include them, you have less characters available in a single message and you may need to split it into multiple chunks.
On a national scale, it’s cheaper and more reliable to stick with the former.
So that non-polish speakers can understand the message.

But okay, lemme explain:
– diactrics are encoded, so instead of another letter you add a bunch of them for single diactric, making the message longer
– if a message has to reach most devices, including dumbphones, its way easier to use standard letters, so they will be properly displayed instead of gibberish, or it would be delivered as two separate messages (which is how they are actually transferred)
