      Deutsche Bahn is planning to introduce a ban on drinking alcohol at all train stations in a bid to improve security.

      The ban is scheduled to go into force by mid-October, with only restaurants and bars on railway premises, as well as restaurants on the trains themselves, to be exempted.

      Some large stations, such as Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne, already have such a ban in place.

      dont we do that already? i mean i do hear and see warnings at Landshut flr example. Probably just major stations for now

      very funny tho that i can still get hammered on 4 expensive db bordrestaurant beers but not on my cheap 5,0% if i want to

      One more reason to use DB less. Yes, I like my beer once in a while, especially on a train.

      How did the security guard fall ***from*** a moving train? Was the train door properly locked, or it’s due to a drunk passenger released the emergency door handle? Seems to be a major security compromise here before catalyzing this to the alcohol ban.

      Stations – sure. But banning people from having a beer on a long distance trains is silly. If they’re not willing to deal with abusive people simply for being abusive, they won’t be dealing with them for having a drink either. They will just end up fining regular passengers who aren’t the issue and will politely accept it.

      I can understand why they’re doing this. I’m not sure it will help much, though: there’s nothing to stop you arriving at the station already drunk, and some habitual drunkards can be very good at hiding their intoxication.

      I imagine at carnival the police will be looking away because there’s no way that’s enforceable at that time.

      This has already been the case in Cologne for at least a couple of weeks now (heard the announcement for the first time a few weeks ago, then again this past sunday) but at least for now it seems like it’s not enforced at all

      Maybe this will help reducing smell of alcohol-fueled piss in the elevator?

      As an avid beer drinker I will miss the opportunity to drink a Pils while waiting for my train as I do from from time to time, but as a cyclist that has to deal with drunk guys using the biking area all the time, I totally agree with this ban, that and the amount of physical aggression that the DB employees get is more than enough reason.

      That’s adorable. DB can enforce those silly requests when they reduce their delays and make the pricing models more affordable for longer distances.
