The downfall of vw has been painful to watch… Automotive industry as a whole if being honest.

Any car management app should not be tied to the servers of the manufacturer. EU should force automakers to offer the possibility for customers to set up their own central hub, just like there are alternatives for smart homes.
You should then be able to connect the hub to VW servers to pull updates for the car or whatever.

Brilliant idea to tie functions of your motor vehicle to devices that are the epitome of US surveillance capitalism.
As far as purchases go, that’s an instant “never” from me.

So no VW for me in the future. I’m quite happy with GrapheneOS.

not so Volks Wagen anymore, rename it to Money Wagen
I dont play lottery so i never can afford a VW ID 7, but i wanted so bad this car.
More and more i dont want a new car. I wrote it in a other post about assit systems, i dislike the way we are going. Surveillance, control, subscriptions.
Financial reasons and despises against those practices let me no other choice then to buy used “old” cars as long i can. My car now is from 2014 and i had it the last 7 years and i hope it holds many years more.

Honestly no car should come with its own app for functions, same as no car should replace the entire dashboard with an ipad.

They also completly blocked their API for third party access, effectively killing all Homeassistant Integrations

Just an FYI, funnily enough yesterday I saw this post from an Italian dev saying he made his own WeConnect replacement exactly for this reason. It’s called DrivePulse you can check it out on the IOS store. Be damned VW and your scummy practices, I still have that useless brick of a data plug

VW seems to be going in all the wrong directions. They also recently blocked Home Assistant from accessing the VW app data.

The ‘Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt’, a German state agency, releases the app i-KfZ to hold a digital version of your cars registration (Fahrzeugschein).
Even that does not support custom ROMs for no reason whatsoever.
Thanks to the ‘Informationsfreiheitsgesetz’ (freedom of information act) German state agencies and ministries are forced to answer requests for information, but when asked about this issue they just ignore it.
With Germany an the EU moving more and more to a surveillance state, looks like they want to make the lives of privacy conscious user difficult already.

VW deserves all of it’s misfortune.

A little note why I posted this in the first place: u/tuffol_11 reminded me [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/1v1dse1/comment/oyq93me/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) that the digital ID system related to the digital Euro is still completely in the hands of Google and Apple. Seeing this article from Heise today with pretty much the same issue reminded me, that we still have a long way to go to get rid of them in the European Union. So even cars are in their tight grip now
So does IKEA 🙂
