Due Gardaí hanno fermato un taxi dopo essere stati aggrediti e aver subito il furto della loro attrezzatura nella città di Dublino.

Lucky they weren’t tied to a lamp post and left without trousers. I suppose the solution is to give them guns or light sabres xD

That’s embarrassing, two gardai with pepper spray and batons were unable to detain a man and he made off with some of their equipment?

Yet they tell us Dublin is safe for people without batons and pepper spray?

I guess the gardai can claim they arent giving there own preferential treatment over the public

I’m not being funny but the vast majority of new recruits wouldn’t have got to interview stage 20 years ago. A lot of them wouldn’t even qualify to apply. I get it’s a thankless job and they need all the numbers they can get but these kinds of stories are going to get more and more common.

It shows the lack of support from the Irish government taking gardai away from patrolling the streets of Dublin and parts of Ireland where they’re needed, to stand around Dublin airport and Dublin Castle wasting Irish peoples tax money instead of using it for the good of Irish people. We’re spending money on the eu presidenticy that any other european country.

Giving the Gardai guns would sort this out right? 😅

Two Gardai are assaulted in the course of their duties, are robbed of equipment, needing to flag down a passing taxi for support, and there isn’t even a patrol car available to dispatch to the scene…………. In the middle of fucking Dublin?

Like, what the fuck are we doing as a country if we can’t even get basics like this right? Not having a Garda car available is typical of what you might expect in rural Ireland, but not in the heart of the capital. It’s just beyond ridiculous at this stage.

I think the bigger issue is that no support available when they were in trouble. How can they have confidence going into any situation if they are wondering if anyone has their back or not.

I hope they had cash on them for the taxi.

That’s right in the middle of Dublin within very easy reach of multiple city centre Garda stations.

There are times Ireland feels like there’s plenty of money floating around but we run services threadbare like we got stuck in the 1980s. It’s across the board too. Loads of public services here seem severely under resourced, and it’s particularly true of ones like Gardaí, social services etc that have direct impact on very visible social problems in places like central Dublin.

Same thing with public transport – just isn’t invested in, and with things like basically having no public sports facilities etc etc that you’d take for granted in much of Northern Europe. Everything feels cobbled together by clubs based on fund raising, or is relying on privately run pools, often in hotels etc.

And where do you even start with health? One insanely expensive project and everything else stumbling along…

So they made off with a pen and note pad then?

I know I’m a foreigner and will probably be downvoted by some people but I think the Garda should be armed with pistols at least for such instances to not reoccur

Do they need better pepper spray? A shot to the face should have 9 out of 10 people on the floor crying and begging for water.

I have seen some videos of people being quite resistant to pepper sprays.
