    Essere rispettosi

    Cari croati, stavo camminando sulla spiaggia e ho visto tutte queste conchiglie, coralli e 4 cristalli. (A circa 15 metri dalla costa) Mi piacerebbe portarne alcuni a casa (non tutti) ma non voglio essere scortese. È consentito prenderne alcuni? Ho sentito che alcuni non possono essere scattati e non sono riuscito a trovare una buona pagina. Voglio scegliere quello che mi piace di più e poi rimettere in spiaggia gli altri. Qualcuno saprebbe dirmi se è giusto farlo? Altrimenti li rimetterò tutti in mare. Vedo molti venditori vendere le stesse conchiglie in barattoli di vetro per 20/30 euro, e io vivo con un budget limitato quindi averne una gratis sarebbe fantastico! Soprattutto l’ultimo in quanto è una conchiglia fossilizzata.

      It’s fine. Locals take home bags of these. Make wall arts, necklaces, wind chimes etc etc. these arent any protected specimens and honestly looks like youd find them in heaps anywhere. Just don’t go and pick alive ones. I know prima nobilis and lithophaga are protected so don’t touch those. There are some others, but i doubt you’ll ever come across those.

      Yeah you can take them, nobody will do anything about it since its perfectly legal

      Sure thing, that distance, not doing anything. I teach my kid that we throw those that can shell crabs back in the sea, but along a descent amount of the coastline so much damage has been done to undersea life by other factors it’s mostly for educational purposes. And i’d say its better than buying them off vendors, they’ll overcharcge you for shit lying around put in 0.50€ glass case, plus it might encourage them into more predatory practices.

      Those are very common shells and rocks. Nothing protected by law or something like that. I have entire jar of those shells and some wall art. One of those is a regular land snail, not from sea 🙂

      These are okay. Never fish out specimens that are still alive though, but abandoned shells should be okay to take.

      Interesting how we all agree that the OP can take home as many as he likes. And indeed we ourselves take home bags of it. (Though my GF isn’t happy if I take the shells because they could be future homes for the hermit crabs.)

      On the other hand I’ve read that on Iceland it is prohibited (or just very rude) to move or take home random stones even. And that’s on an island where the rocks spew out of the ground regularly.

      BTW, I think that the second shell on top left is from a land snail.

      I know everyone keeps saying take them all, but it’s really important not to disturb the natural habitats. Seashells and cocoons play a role in those too. They are far from insignificant.
      We get millions of tourists every year and we shouldn’t encourage this. Just because Croatia doesn’t have strict laws about this like Hawaii where you could face prison time and a hefty fine if they find seashells or even stones from the beach in your bags at airport.

      Thank you for politely asking if it’s okay or legal. Technically it is legal but that doesn’t make it right.

      Please keep this in mind when visiting not only our beaches but anywhere in the world – If everyone that visits took as much as you would it be a problem?

      The best thing to take from any place in the world are pictures and memories.
