      Journalist Vakho Sanaia has been sentenced to 14 days of administrative detention over Facebook posts about ruling party officials Papuashvili and Bozhadze.

      Sanaia had been mocking Georgia’s newly launched “scroll-and-screenshot” department – a police unit created to monitor social media for “offensive” content – by sarcastically urging people to “stop calling Papuashvili and Bozhadze d*ckheads,” since that’s now a punishable offense. For those posts, he was fined 6,000 GEL (~$2,300).

      He responded with a follow-up:
      > I wrote a status saying “don’t call Papuashvili and Bozhadze d*ckheads” and they fined me 6,000 lari for it. Well, in that case, I don’t know, go ahead and call them that.

      That post earned him 14 days behind bars.
