‘It’s alleged that Matthew Wright conspired with his co-defendants to defraud the Environment Agency (EA) and Ofwat between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2017.

They’re accused of manipulating the Operator Self-Monitoring (OSM) compliance testing regime which requires water firms to to take samples at their wastewater treatment works and report the results to the EA.’

      > Operator Self-Monitoring

If they cannot regulate themselves, then regulation will come to them whether they like it or not.

Perhaps Ofwat need more teeth if the government is unwilling or unable to stomach renationalising them. Make it so tight it puts off investment vehicles that see these companies as an endless supply of money to bring them back under public ownership

Which ever idiot came up with Operator Self-Monitoring needs sacking if their still in the job, of course their going to defraud, it’ll same Millions for the share holders.

Hopefully this will mean the people running Thames Water et al are soon to follow as it’s pretty obvious conspiracy to defraud isn’t isolated to Southern.

Isn’t there a comedy show/film based on the entire premise of how stupid it was to allow water companies to self regulate?

I work in the industry and while non of the either public or privatised companies are perfect there are three undertakers with strong rumours of this or reducing flows to full treatment until the EDM were installed

    7. Whats the penalty for this?

Anything less than a substantial Jail term is unacceptable.

I’m sure they will avoid jail or any meaning full punishment.

I’m glad you guys have the state machinery to charge and punish these kinds of actions.

In my country they turn a blind eye

      Well, well, well.

      Some questions:

      – what the fuck, OFWAT?

      – how much of the inevitably massive bonuses that this man and the others were paid can be clawed back and *returned to the customers*? (If they are found guilty)
