    1. Well that’s unexpected – good for them!

And if he doubles down, UEFA should just leave FIFA.

I’m surprised it was unanimous, well done for taking a firm stand.

A lot of criticism of Infantino but this had the Americans written all over it.

The trump administration got a taste of how popular football is and instantly wanted to hyper-commercialise it.

    4. Lady-Spangles on

I’m pleasantly surprised that the decision was unanimous, tbh.

Brilliant. Well done UEFA and all the supporting associations.

Fuck FIFA, Trump, Kushner and all the blatant corruption.

Good. A world cup without England, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Norway, Croatia or Sweden isn’t a world cup. It would be just a handful of games to sit through until Argentina play Brazil in the final.

    7. cueca2000 on

We’ll create our own world cup

      with blackjack

      and hookers

Boycott it anyway. World Cup sucks now. Euros are better, have them every 2 years.

Good luck getting “investors” for a world cup missing 80% of the best teams.

      God I love being European/not being a fucking yank/having a brain

UEFA showing some bollocks. Unexpected and very welcome 👍

EVERYTHING the Trump/Kushner rot touch turns to garbage.

I am kinda surprised, that people dont mention one massive thing – both CWC and WC are to be organize in Spain+Portugal+Morocco next year.

Majority of the stadiums are in UEFA countries for next cycle. So if UEFA boycots the CWC and WC, FIFA would need to scramble to relocate (and in theory UEFA could put there different tournament for same time, as everything is gooing to be ready for it).

I mean some EURO invitational…? EURO+10 invited countries?

    14. I’m actually glad UEFA showed some spine. Hope they not back down on this decision. Football is ours and is our duty to safe our game from the stupidity that this world cup was and the tournaments to come under FIFA.

    15. peterpaapan on

Big F to Trump and Infantino. They are the pinnacle of scum on earth – serves them right

I’m incredibly happy the 55 associations came together on this one.

    16. Pentax25 on

At this point UEFA should just quit the World Cup and do their own anyway

    17. Cookies4weights on

Honestly the Euro is the real championship. Hold a few spots for out of region qualification (the likes of Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Japan) to play in for and voila

    18. The whole world needs to boycott FIFA…. Bankrupt the whole mess and start over

    19. Massimo25ore on

Italy: “welcome to the club! Better late than never”

    20. the statement is actually stronger than title. UEFA is already boycotting all FIFA competitions until the financing plan is killed

    21. Working_Method8543 on

They should be stripped of their non-profit-status and benefits immediately. This would fuck them up colossally.

    22. Throwawayaccount1170 on

“approval is granted, Fifa says Thrive Eternal is expected to lead the proposed investor group for FFE.

Thrive is an American venture capital firm founded by Joshua Kushner – the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared.”

So ofc it’s linked to the orange guy and his family

    23. Vast_Category_7314 on

At this point FIFA should be burned to the ground, it has become a monster.

    24. ACIDesings on

As an Argentinian I say Fuck off Gianni … never would I thought I would miss João Havelange😅

    25. splashbodge on

So presumably this kills the whole deal, even just the threat of it? Why would Kushner / whoever want to buy the world cup if it’s under threat that Europe will boycott. It would instantly be worth less once the deal is made. Or they’ll get it at a steal now

    26. EvilMonkeySlayer on

The majority of money made for the world cup is because of us in Europe if I remember correctly.

Why would an advertiser give large sums of money if nobody in Europe is watching the world cup because no European teams are playing? Then you’ve got European broadcasters, why the fuck would they pay the money for the broadcast rights?

Also, I’m going to say something very obvious that some people may or may not like. But, England the nation that literally created the sport itself opting not to take part in the world cup should be the death knell of FIFA. You simply cannot have the nation that created the sport not taking part at all.

    27. SolarBum on

      >the proposal announced earlier this week by Fifa, which oversees world football.

FIFA doesn’t own football, FIFA owns FIFA tournaments. These member organizations just need to create a new governing body and tell FIFA to fuck off.

    28. Infantino is a thug of the worst kind. Truly despicable. No wonder he’s friends with Trump.

    29. At this point we should boycott *either way*. Do our own thing. FIFA is beyond salvage, it’s rotten to the core.

All that’s left is to throw FIFA on the trash heap and move on without it. Even the video games would probably be better under UEFA than FIFA.
