    1. Babayan is an interesting character – his political ambitions over the past few years have been a mixed bag, but I think we should all appreciate the chance to get his insights.

He’s been one of the few realists who can approach a situation rationally instead of emotionally.

There will be downvoting, but IMO, Babayan is one of the largest contributing factor to why the first Artsakh war was a success, and probably one of the only reasons we held out as long as we did in the second.

We should’ve rallied around him then, and we should’ve rallied around him when negotiating with the Azerbaijan.

If we’re to believe him (which is completely up to you), then we probably would have negotiated a much better position than we were in today.

He’s the only one to give a legitimate theory as to why the blockade of Artsakh happened.

His claim was that Armenian/Artsakh leadership agreed to give up heavy weapons in Artsakh after 2020, but never actually did. The blockade was a way to get Nikol and Arayik to follow through on their previous agreements. Babayan claimed they could have kept small weapons and a local police force, but had to give up the tanks and artillery. He claimed Armenian/Artsakh leadership had 2 years to coordinate the transfer of heavy weapons to Armenia, but they did nothing.

Armenia (and Artsakh by proxy) were presented a ceasefire agreement in October 2020, which was rejected. After losing Shushi, Armenia signed the Nov 9th agreement. IMO many things were not publicly spelled out in that agreement to save political face.

We now know Armenia agreed to build alternate roads, and relocate villagers from several areas (e.g. Aghavno). Armenia dragged its feet on those issues. Not a stretch to think they agreed to give up heavy weapons too. Babayan’s claim fits like a missing puzzle piece.

If this is true, think of how stupid we look. That would mean we have a leader who agreed to give up weapons, yet had no intention of doing so. Even when pressured with starvation of ethnic Armenians, still would not budge for the sake of giving up political power. Imagine letting innocent people starve, women lose their pregnancies due to malnutrition, just so you can save your political hide.

In the end; we lost Artsakh, the weapons, lots of people were killed/wounded, we have a refugee crisis, and most of Artsakh leadership are in Baku prisons.

EDIT: Forgot to mention: Makes no sense for Russians to starve out or forcibly deport Arstakh Armenians, as Artsakh was an excuse for Russian presence to be there in the first place. Just had to add that before I am downvoted to reddit hell.
