I think because Vooruit understands that the only way to keep our Sociale Zekerheid/ Pensioen/ Leeflonen/kinderopvang- toelages/ loonindex alive and strong
Is by flirting with NVA ( so NVA won’t destroy it) and allowing NVA to reform other government spending; like less ambtenaren;
by being harder on those that refuse to look for work ;
Make sure people don’t abuse ” long term illness”
And so on
Vooruit wants to restrict immigration as well; in order to be able to spend more on integration of immigrants that are already here
It’s not black/ white left or right; those days are over
Since when you look at the votes it’s the most logical and most likely government. VB is left out by the CS. So you need NVA to have a majority, CD&V and Vooruit are the most logical parties to work together. If NVA doesn’t want Vooruit they’ll need VLD and Groen or PVDA. That sounds even weirder for a coalition.
When forming a government there would need to be compromises anyways, doesn’t matter if the differences are big or small.
It’s an open secret that De Wever and Rousseau have more or less agreed they should try to form the next Flemish government, long before the election. N-VA often had conflicts with CD&V and VLD during the last 10 years of Swedish coalition, so they were thinking of a new kind of coalition anyway. Vooruit knows they don’t do that well as an opposition party.
I think the bigger challenge will be federal level anyway, as the budget situation is much worse there. The Flemish government has been kind of spendthrifty anyway (electric car subsidies being a good example) so I don’t think N-VA minds giving a few trophies to Vooruit, such as school meals.
Conner is very charismatic. Bart De Wever already wanted him over Open VLD since a couple of years.
You want 500 days of infighting and mindgames?
The elections are over. The seats have been distributed. This is the time to come to agreements, not to keep fighting each other as if you can get everything you want. Real life doesn’t work like that and I think Bart and the others learned their lesson in that regard.
Vooruit understands that there is no possible coalition without NVA. NVA knows they cannot form a reasonable coalition without Vooruit. FFS be glad they both understand that
Since always basically? there hasn’t been anything left wing or socialist about vooruit or spa for decades
The coalition in Antwerp that was formed after the previous election might have something to do with it
