    2. It’s how she’s tracking how much you drink and what type of beverage. It’s a traditional method to track your bar tab from before computers and some places still practice it for tradition

      In Köln, they use tick marks on the coaster to keep track of how many beers you’ve had. Beers are served by any waitstaff, they just walk around with them. When it’s time to pay, they just count tick marks.

      I’d assume it’s basically the same thing, but for wine (with different possible prices per glass/type).
