Majority of the dataset does not include occupied territories. Just as a note. The ones that do live in occupied territory oppose ANY territorial concessions by roughly 60% if I got that right and they are not equally represented in this poll. (1 out of 3 roughly).
It’s also opposition to ANY territorial concession. Doesn’t state how much or under what conditions. Someone agreeing to give up an inch of territory in general would for example count as “yup they’d be okay with it”, even if it is dĂȘ-facto no territory of value.
For example, what is more conclusive, the same poll states around 53% would not oppose giving up Luhansk, Donetsk and Crimea, if it meant Ukraine joins the EU and NATO.
Russia would never accept that.
Opposition is the magical word here – it doesn’t imply support. It can also mean something like “We’d accept those terms, but not because we like them.”
This is literally just “if we sued for peace, would we be willing to give up ANY territory”. Pragmatism rules here – of course people would be willing to *consider* it – given that the conditions are right.
And right conditions for roughly 53% would be – for example – a proper peace guarantor. NATO and EU membership that is – even the KIIS noted that.
Without a proper peace guarantee for Ukraine, this war will continue. Russia will never accept a proper peace guarantee for Ukraine because it would mean they wouldn’t be able to invade again in the future.
Just to put this into context as many ppl will not make that extra click to read the article. Some of this is war fatigue, surely, but I’d attribute most of the data to simply a pragmatic way of thinking.
Does that mean Ukraine is willing to CONSIDER giving up territory for peace? Yes. Does that mean they’d be willing to give up territory for a shitty peace, nope.

Seems low. Was this poll conducted in Crimea?

I could kind of understand the willingness to give away certain territories if it would mean lasting peace. But the chances for that are basically zero.
Russia’s “peace deal” will not only include that Ukraine gives up all “officially” annexed territories, but also that the rest of Ukraine will be “neutral” and the West isn’t allowed to supply them with weapons to protect themselves against the next Russian attack. And this attack will happen as soon as Russia has rebuilt its army.
Russia wants more than some territories from Ukraine. They marched on Kyiv and Odesa until they were forced back by Ukrainian troops and the invasion of Moldova was already drawn on their map. This war of conquest will not stop until Russia is stopped by someone.

As Croatian I fully understand.
And if you ask people from any country they wouldn’t do it either.

The occupied land mass has largely been mined to a Biblical level. The towns leveled with little left for the people that have survived. Then there’s time, the enemy of every tyrant.
Putin will die one way or another. That will dynamically change the situation. Ukraine will get it’s territory returned. Crimea maybe become a independent state of it’s own. There are many possibilities. But the hot war needs to end.
France holds the key to this not America. They are unique in Russian interaction with a ability to buffer between the two nations. Hopefully after the Olympics we will see a move on France’s part.

Who are these polls? I’ve never answered one.
