These articles really need to make clear that the fires are caused by *illegal* e-bikes, not legit ones. Otherwise it’s just fear mongering.
NSFW content here.

You’ll need to use the link in the article to see the footage. Truly shocking how dangerous these batteries can be. Don’t think I’ll use a lift with anyone else again.
What is the law against people and companies selling these? If they cause a fire, would they be considered criminally negligent?
[This is the reason I ask](https://www.cnbc.com/2024/07/30/cpsc-says-amazon-responsible-for-faulty-goods-sold-on-its-marketplace.html)
I dont believe it is in the UK plus it wont be easy to prove that you charged the battery correctly
Families of victims should probably stop buying illegal e bikes then wtf.
Like it’s already illegal, wtf more do they want?
This is why I don’t buy stuff like that from shops that don’t have a retail presence. By that I mean no Amazon, no Ebay, no Wish, no Temu, no Facebook marketplace. I’m not buying anything like that unless my solicitor can walk into your office and serve you the papers to say you’re being sued.
I don’t care about the manufacturer, I bought it from a shop, and so if it bursts into flames, it’s the shop’s fault for selling me faulty merchandise.
