It would totally freak out Putin and in general and would make them virtually impossible to dislodge.
A big Advantage is perhaps they could trade for the Ukrainian power plant in Zaporizhzhia.
It would also be hilarious to watch the Russians threaten nuclear devastation on themselves.

Without a doubt, but it’s going to be hard as I’m sure that russians already built a defense line and prepared the countermeasures near/inside the nuclear plant already. That’s the nature of man fear and of course they had time for it
Ukraine is very far from the nuclear plant, it is very likely not planning to reach it.

No, they should destroy all of the power infrastructure around it (substations, powerlines, etc.), which will put the lights out in most of the surrounding areas, including Kursk city (~450,000 people).
Ukraine’s forces are only around 40km away at this point, so they will shortly be able to do it with artillery, and wouldn’t even need to waste HIMARS rounds on it, and Russia would then be forced to put the plant into shutdown on their own.
That will inflict huge damage on the industrial output of the Kursk region, which is significant, and hamper Russian abilities to stage counterattacks on Ukrainian positions.
Yes Ukraine should capture one so they can trade it back in the same state as their own NPP. IE if it’s broken then maybe Ukraine should break Russias NPP

Power plants are civilian objects and are protected from capture or destruction. So, you are asking if Ukraine should commit a war crime. Before anyone says “but russia captured power plants too, or worse”, but Ukraine is not russia and should not lower themselves to those standards.
Probably yes. But on the condition that they will do it without the threatening the plant’s construction. It would probably need to be done by surrounding Russian troops there and forcing them to retreat. No other way, I suppose

Yes they should, and immediately go into cold shut down. This plant powers a lot of war material and manufacturing, great target but they’d have to be quick, Russian morons know its a great target too.
encircle the NPP, give the operators the time to safely shutdown the thing. Stay away from the reactor and then destroy the electrical substation. It will take 2 years to get the NPP running again, components for the electrical systems are under embargo. Good luck with that.
