Even knew to pull the pin on his nade, so it doesn’t become UXO, either really smart or well trained, either way, he will live.

He looked poorly equipped.

Smart and lucky for location and timing to allow a successful surrender.

Smart man doesn’t want to die for that idiot Putin. Slava Ukraini.

I’ll take these videos 100-times over. It’s not just the dudes who live, it’s other things like knowing the drone operator has something positive to hold on to when it comes time to finally process all this mess. That’s verifiable proof that what has been done was not “indescriminate.”
Every day was a chance to surrender or run away, the rest chose not to.
Not saying the operators have or deserve negative thoughts, but that they can eventually creep up on you. And you don’t know when or what will trigger you.

He could have tossed the grenade to make other troops in the area stay under cover so they don’t see him heading out. Make them think the drones are actively dropping rather than leading him out

I don’t understand why there is only 1 Russian alone?

Holy heck, I’ve been seeing a lot of smart Russians these days but here we have an actual certified tactical genius.
First of all he understood his situation and realized that the best way to live and defend his actual nation is to quit Putin’s army and surrender to Ukraine.
That alone makes him smarter than the entire Kremlin high command.
Second, he brought a grenade and used it, once behind tree cover, to make it seem like he had been drone-bombed to anyone who might have realized he just escaped.
Third, he wandered through smoking ruins, thereby providing himself with natural smoke cover to further support the ruse of him being killed. Because no distant observer would be able to see him walking away.
Someday, perhaps, new nations will rise from the debris of the Russian Federation. After the surrender, and the Hague trials, and the reconstruction of everything Putin has destroyed. When that day comes, hopefully people of this level of intelligence will be in charge of whatever new nations emerge.
