      Because they are. Some well placed c4 charges can take it offline for a while atleast.

      Absolutely. Anything that funds Putin’s war machine is a legitimate target. But then again, are they the wisest targets? While Western countries shouldn’t be adding to Russia’s coffers, depriving them of energy all of a sudden isn’t going to help in the diplomatic efforts to get Western support.

      I would say it was even illegal to build these, as Germany ignored all the warnings from the Baltic states, which are members of the EU. Merkel and Schröder should be held accountable for allowing these projects to proceed. Let’s not forget that these were built after Russia’s invasions of Georgia in 2008 and Ukraine in 2014. Germany had a responsibility to hold Russia accountable for such occupations.

      Let’s not forget that, thanks to Germany, Eastern Europe was occupied by Russia (and before that, by Germany), and they have a historical responsibility to take all necessary actions to prevent it from happening again.

      Germany literally invented modern unrestricted economic warfare during the First World War. They should know full well this stuff is a legitimate military target.

      They always were, and still are.

      They’re russian infrastructure that directly funds their war of genocide. They had to go.

      It might be inconvenient for Europe that its decommissioning caused some disruption in our energy markets, but we can’t back Ukraine only when it’s convenient to us. Sometimes things are going to sting and reliance on russian energy is a bandaid that’s long overdue in being ripped off, and absolutley worth the price.

      Czech Republic imported 87% of their gas in 2022 from Russia.
      Poland imported 55% of their gas in 2022 from Russia plus 7,5% from Germany (which in parts is a Russian import). Totalling in something around 57’ish%.

      Germany imported 20% of its Gas in 2022 from Russia (down from 55% in 2021). And no, North Stream 2 didn’t play a factor in the decline.

      North Stream 1 transported 13,8 billion cubic meters.
      North Stream 2: 0

      North Stream 2 was sabotaged in September 2022. Prior to that it could have transported gas but wasn’t used, as it would have been political suicide, as the vast majority of Germans wanted it killed. Only 28% wanted it activated at one point in the future.

      If infrastructure would have been sabotaged, which supplied Czech Republic or Poland, I am pretty sure you would have seen very similar patterns of investigation.

      Therefore, I think it is more than fair game for Germany to investigate the sabotage. And having EU members publicly stating that we should be happy is a weird take.

      And don’t get me wrong. Consuming gas, imported from Russia needed to stop. And as you can see from the numbers I provided, Germany was on a way better trajectory than e.g. Poland or Czechia, who (mostly Poland) didn’t get tired finger pointing at Germany, which remains to be weird and ironic.

      But blowing stuff up without needing to (as it wasn’t used and wouldn’t be used), only gives ammunition to Politicians inside Germany saying, Russia isn’t the bad guy. And I fucking despise them and loathe the moment these morons gain more traction. But gloating in this sub doesn’t help and also paints a wrong picture.

      I read a lot of bold comments and statements, just a few words to give a perspective:

      As do his contenders: AFD and BSW.

      In the meantime the german GDP is continuously dropping ( [https://www.destatis.de/EN/Themes/Economy/National-Accounts-Domestic-Product/Tables/gdp-bubbles.html](https://www.destatis.de/EN/Themes/Economy/National-Accounts-Domestic-Product/Tables/gdp-bubbles.html) ), as big parts of the economy were/are based on cheap energy from russia.

      If it turns out this pipeline was demolished by ukrainians, this might be a turning point how ukraine support is perceived in germany or might accelerate a change in position. And if that happens, it doesn’t matter whether it is a “legitimate target”
