It’s not just about territory, Putin wants the demilitarization of Ukraine. Unless he’s put into a really bad position, he won’t give that up.

How is it even rational to imagine it?
People who imagine Ukraine “settling” for giving up, say, Mariupol, are imagining an outcome which looks indistinguishable from a surrender settlement.
