> Unlike her husband King Henry I, Anne could read and write, and, what is interesting to learn, in her letters to her father she described Paris as a gloomy place that could not be even closely compared to Kyiv.
Cool fact about the name Phillip.
Another few centuries later, and you got a country named after that in the opposite side of the world. Which we are not proud of invading, but we are of what they decided to keep from those times. Stay strong, Filipinos, you are in our hearts.
Yet another data point that supports that we are one world. The Russians being the bully in the world, ever needing to be disciplined.
Fun fact – one of the earliest rulers by the name of Philip was Philip the Second, of Macedon. He’s famous for being the father of Alexander the Great. He was king of Macedon and briefly Hegemon of all of Greece between 300-400BC. It is said that without Philip II’s wide reforms to the Macedonian army and economy, Alexander would never have been able to conquer the world at his young age. Philip II’s military was amongst the first in the known world to be a dedicated, professional military force – in a time where most armies were still raised from the working people.
My Ukrainian wife insisted to name our first son Philippe, which I didn’t mind, because I’m French. She loves to tell that story about the name Philippe, who was introduced in France by Anna de Kiyv.
If she’s the direct reason why Philip became a Western European name… then she is the indirect reason why a country in Southeast Asia without a native population of horses ended up being named “Philippines”
It’s crazy how most of the royals in Europe were related. It’s like Europe was ruled by one big family.
Moscow would not exist for at least 100 more years,
Keep in mind that simple fact.
(possibly even more cause the foundation date was most likely forged).
