    1. White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby has stated during a briefing that claims suggesting Ukraine could strike most of the military aircraft from which Russia conducts attacks on Ukrainian territory with the help of ATACMS missiles are incorrect.

Source: European Pravda with reference to Voice of America

Quote from Kirby: “Nothing’s changed about our policy with respect to long-range strikes inside Russia and for Russian territory. I also think it’s important to note, if I might, that 90% of the aircraft that Russia uses for glide bombs and long-range strikes – we’ve done the maths on this – 90% of them lie outside 300 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, deep inside Russia.

So, the argument that somehow, if you just give them [the Ukrainians] an ATACMS and tell them ‘it’s okay’ that they’re going to be able to go in and hit the majority of the Russian aircraft and air bases that are, in fact, used to strike them is not true; it’s a misconception.”

Details: Meanwhile, Kirby noted that the US is continuing to work on strengthening Ukraine’s air defence:

“What Mr. Putin’s doing is hitting civilian infrastructure, trying, especially in advance of winter coming, knocking out energy grids. It’s despicable; unfortunately, it’s a play right out of his playbook. It’s not something new he hadn’t done before.

Nothing’s changed about our view that Ukraine should be able to use the tools it has available to it to defend itself, and that’s why air defence continues to be a prominent issue in these security packages that we’re giving, so that they can help defend against these attacks on their energy infrastructure.”

Background: The US earlier reported that it had not changed its policy on Ukraine striking deep within Russian territory with the use of US-provided weapons.

Okaay, well give ‘em something that DOES. Unless Kirby made a veiled statement.

    3. say that to the man who just lost his wife and 3 daughters in the recent attack on Lviv, and all the other people who have lost loved ones in these indiscriminate attacks on civilians. Im sure he would have something to say to these people who make these decisions.
As it turns out, eu and us will only help Ukraine NOT LOSE, if Ukraine wants to defeat russia they will have to develop their own weapons.

So you’re saying 10% of the aircraft are within range? That’s several dozen valid targets.

The only reason I can think of why the US continues to deny Ukraine the ability to use long range missiles in Russia (and not just have to play defense, which is a ridiculous notion) is that the US has some sort of longtime secret pact with Russia to not allow other countries to use their missiles to attack within their borders.

So the US says, “we won’t give any country missiles that can attack you domestically, and you don’t give any weapons to Cuba (for example) that could strike within our borders.”

If its true, its a completely useless pact. Any enemy of the US that has the ability to strike within US borders (see Cuba) would be neutralized immediately if they tried anything.

There might be something deeper in terms of an agreement to not supply other countries technology to build long range missiles that might threaten either Russia or US (for example Russians giving technology for larger missiles to North Korea or Iran) but I find that to also be ridiculous.

The only other option I can think of is that Ukraine could decimate Russia’s military and infrastucture by using long range missiles, which the US fears will drive Putin to do something rash which could hurt the US and global security. But again, that’s stupid, as well. Ukraine having the potential to do that would force Russia to come to the negotiating table and could put an end to the war.

It’s all a bit befuddling, but I know that I don’t like what the US (and the UK, since they have long range missiles) are doing, and would like some explanations.

But it’s OK for Russia to launch missiles full of American components at Ukraine.

    7. MrCabbuge on

Well yeah, because russkies already moved their shit beyond range.

    8. PanTheOpticon on

Well they’ve waited long enough for Russia to redeploy 90% of their aircraft out of ATACMS range. So yeah, good job on giving Russia enough time for that…

It’s not so much about destroying the aircraft and munitions in the airfields which are within the range of ATACMS but the airfields themselves too. Aircraft is useless if it doesn’t have a working airfield along with all of its infrastructure to support it. How you do you plan on landing or taking off in a plane with a run way that looks like most of rural Russian roads?

Simply destroying the airfields will automatically give Ukraine that 300km of whatever the range is buffer zone in regards to RU aircraft. So even if they’re striking from a range further than that it simply means they have to stick to that. How Ukrainians tackle the problem of further airfields is a problem to which I’m sure they’ve already got/are working on a solution to (palianytsia or the new ballistic missile they are developing)

first they do everything so that russians relocate their planes and now oopsie

It would be true were we not so crippled with caution. The opportunity came and went.

What does the US actually want?

Does it want Ukraine to Win, or does it want to let Ukraine win just enough to keep Russia contained?

If the US thinks it’s possible to contain Russia it is sorely mistaken. History has show us time and time again that appeasing dictators does not work. It didn’t work with Hitler. It won’t work with Putin.

I can’t believe US policy makers are so stupid to think this half assed appeasement strategy will work.

If the US wants Ukraine to Win it needs to let Ukraine operate within the same rules as Russia. You can’t win a war with a hand tied behind your back.

Why did it have to be a Slapstick isekai?

Why can’t the Minecraft world be cool enough to exist on its own merit?
The only reason to have the world be explored by 4 random people from some other dimension, instead of the characters inhabiting this world (Steve for example), is lack of faith in their own world building.

There are so many cool mysteries to explore in the Minecraft universe, but instead this is gonna be another emoji movie
